Guru mantra for a peaceful life

The Secretary, University Grants Commission, Prof Ved Prakash, said that discipline, perseverance and hard work are the guru mantra for a peaceful and leading life. He was speaking at the Annual Day function of Maharaja Surajmal Institute. He said that ever widening self, elasticity of goals, honesty, value for time and command over the language are also the basics to get success in life. The function was organised on March 4. The principals of the institutes, MSI and MSIT presented the annual reports of their respective institutes. Prizes for academic, sports and cultural events were also distributed on the occasion. There was an overwhelming response from the participants of both the institutes and the audience present there. Harsh Kumar, an educationist, having education institutions in USA, also graced the function.
NCPE celebrates women’s weekNoida College of Physical Education, Noida (NCPE) celebrated the women’s week from March 4 to 8. The principal of the college, Dr Neshla, said that as far as the knowledge is concerned, both men and women are alike. All live like human beings for their healthy growth and harmonious development of the society, she said. Dr Bineeta Aggarwal with her wit and humour brought up the dignity of the women in a congenial manner. The entire staff member participated and enlightened the audience through their beautiful thoughts on various aspects of women’s role in the society. Dr S. K. Lau of Delhi University rightly brought it to the notice of house that the physical activity and sports can be vital in the life of a woman. He stressed that the growth and development of a child in the family always depends on the mother and if she is educated, its lasting effects can very easily be felt in all the members of the family.

NIS Sparta and NIIT launch new courseNIS Sparta and International Education Business (IEB) of NIIT have entered into a strategic alliance to launch honours Diploma in Applied Management and Business Skills for professionals who seek expertise in IT as well as business skills. Launched with the objective of helping the IT students become more competitive and employable, this course would be launched at 110 international centres of NIIT across 27 countries covering Asia Pacific, Africa, Middle East, CIS nations, and Latin America. The launch would take place in a phased manner starting February 2004. Besides, the NIIT, in its endeavour to bring women and computers together, has embarked upon a special initiative to reach out to tens of thousands of Indian women starting March 8, 2004, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. To help women become IT literate, NIIT has launched Swift Jyoti for women, a unique curriculum, specially tailored to meet their needs, at over 3,500 education centres. The programme has been designed to help today’s women become a computer user in a short span of time.
Medical students felicitatedAs many as 75 doctors and medical students from AIIMS, Maulana Azad Medical College, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, and many other reputed medical colleges of the country met recently in their former pre-medical training institute, TQM, in east Delhi. All of them were presented mementos by the Dr Joseph Kutty, Director of Christian Medical College, Vellore. Dr Kutty said that intensive and excellent coaching is must for passing the pre-medical examination. “I have seen a number of good students failing to clear the test since they do not get proper coaching to fact the test. Dr Abid Hussain remarked that there is a very big chance coming in the education sector and the government should improve the budget spent on education sector compared to the other sectors. He was speaking at the inauguration of two-day conference “Higher Education Under GATS’, organised by United States education foundation in India (USEFI), Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) and Amity Foundation of Higher Learning at Amity Business School, Noida. It is important to inculcate a sense of belongingness for the country among our people because the strength of India lies in the people’s minds.
