Amritsar
programme
: An inter-departmental cultural programme, Jashan-2004 will be held at the Guru Nanak Dev University campus on March 8 and March 12 to 15. Dr R.K. Bedi, Dean, Students’ Welfare, said the programme would be of five days instead of the earlier three-day schedule.

SEMINAR: The proposed seminar on “Challenges and priorities in urban and regional planning” to be organised by Guru Ramdass School of Planning of Guru Nanak Dev University scheduled for March 3-4 has been postponed and will now be held on March 22-23. This was stated Dr BR Batra, Head of the department.

Khanna
Arrested
: The Khanna police has busted a gang of thieves with the arrest of four of its members. The police said on Saturday, a naka had been laid at Rasulra village from where the accused had been arrested. They were produced in a local court that sent them in judicial custody for 14 days.

Ludhiana
EYE check-up camp
: More than 400 persons were examined at an eye check-up camp organised by the Atri Times Eye Research Foundation at Amar Public School, Sham Nagar, here on Monday. The patients would be operated upon at the DMCH free of cost. Fifty-three persons filled eye donation forms.

Medical camp: A multi-speciality medical camp was held at Gurbachan Memorial Hospital, Lalton Kalan, by Christian Medical College and Hospital here on Monday. As many as 400 persons were given medical advice free of cost under various specialities. Medicines were also provided free of cost.

Camp inaugurated: Jarnail Hari Singh Nalwa Welfare Society organised a free medical camp in memory of Mata Jaswant Kaur Boparai at Baddowal here on Monday. The camp was inaugurated by Mr Jaspal Singh Khangura. More than 460 patients benefited from the camp. A cultural programme was also presented by children on the occasion.

Dental health: A talk was organised by the Lions Club, Ludhiana, on dental health. Dr Gagan Dogra, dental surgeon, spoke about various measures for the prevention of dental diseases. Emphasis was laid on dental implants for the replacement of teeth.

Meeting: Punjab Agricultural University and the national seed project (crops) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research organised their annual group meeting here on Tuesday. Dr G.S. Nanda, Director, Research, gave the welcome address while Dr R.K. Chowdhary, project coordinator, highlighted the achievements under the project. Dr K.S.Aulakh, PAU Vice-Chancellor, felicitated retiring scientists.

Talent search: A talent search competition was held at Everest Playway and Nursery School, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Park, on Tuesday. Mr Surinder Singh, Superintendent of the PSEB, inaugurated the function. Tiny tots presented an impressive show comprising dance, story-telling and poetry recitation. Tushar and Kanika were chosen as best students.

ATHLETICS MEET: The 59th Annual Athletics Meet of the local Government Bikram College of Commerce concluded here on Tuesday. Mayor of the Municipal Corporation Vishnu Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. Principal of the college Narinder Narula highlighted the achievements of the students in different fields.

ELECTED: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Bank Colony Residents Association: president — Mr R.S. Ghai, vice-president — Mr I.P. Kochar, secretary — Mr M.J.S. Thukral and treasurer-cum-joint secretary — Mr Manjit Singh Anand.

ACUPRESSURE CAMP: The Rural Health Society Nagpur has organised an acupressure and magneto therapy camp under the guidance of Dr Neelema at Ram Leela Ground, Raghomajra, from February 28 to March 19. Dr Neelema said this therapy strengthens the body resistance and improves blood circulation.

CHEATED: Mrs Radhika Rani of the local Gaushala road was cheated of gold ornaments and Rs 10000 in cash by a motorcyclist here on Monday.

STUDY TOUR: Students of Golden Bells Public School, Sohana, went out on a study trip on Tuesday. The teachers accompanying them showed students how honey is collected from bees at a farm.

INAUGURATED: The new building of Vijay Public School, Sector 58, was inaugurated by Mr Manoranjan Kalia on Monday. An amritvani satsang was organised on the occasion. While addressing the gathering, Mr Kalia spoke about the school's achievements. The vice- president of the school committee, Mr J.P.Jain, proposed a vote of thanks.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP: The SAS Institute of Information Technology organised a blood donation camp on Tuesday. The staff members of the institute and students donated blood on the occasion.

SCHOOL FUNCTION: The annual function of the kindergarten section of Lord Mahavir Jain Public School was held on Sunday. School Principal Sudha Mathur said former Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, Dr Suraj Bhan, was the chief guest. An art and craft exhibition and a talent show was presented by the tiny tots. Among others, Mr N.K. Jain, Mr Sant Kumar Jain, Mr S.K. Jain, Mr Pankaj Jain and Mr Dharamvir Jain were also present.
