DU makes elaborate arrangements to
check Holi hooliganism

New Delhi, March 2
The Holi festival is due on March 7, but the spirit prevails throughout the week. Although it is a festival of colours for those who accept it. Otherwise, some anti-social elements take advantage of this and try to harm the people and more often girls and women.

To keep a check on such activities, Delhi University has taken vital steps to provide security to girl students and other people from such anti-social elements. It has initiated steps to make elaborate internal and external security arrangements on the campus and its affiliated colleges to combat any act of Holi hooliganism and tumultuous causing harm to anybody particularly women students.

For this purpose, the university authority has asked assistance of police also. The proctorial staff and some voluntary organisations would also be spread throughout the campus to check any such violence. The university authority has specifically directed all the students studying in the colleges, especially living in different hostels, not to get indulged in any such violence. The authority has also warned the students that if someone would be found indulged in such unlawful activity, stringent action would be taken against him.

This is not the first time when the university is going to take such steps. Last year, too, the police arrested some people who were wandering in the area and were found in drunken state. TNS

The spring-summer collection, Aura.

DELHITES have yet another reason to rejoice at the onset of the spring-summer season with the opening up of Aura, an upmarket trendy label from Kolkata. The city that has given designers like Kiran Uttam Ghosh and Sabyasachi Mukherjee has another ace up its sleeve — Harshita Chawdhary.

Aura by Harshita is located in the upmarket Hauz Khas village and is targeted at beautiful women. It has melange simple cuts, vibrant hues and a kitsch look. Vibrant hues emphasize the joie de vivre of the woman of today.

Says Harshita, “My imagination translates itself into designs. I see everything as a beautiful, passionate creation and have been doing so as long as I can remember.” Her forte lies in craftsmanship, a legacy that the medley of unknown and faceless kaarigars, settled in the remote hamlets of West Bengal, preserve and give contemporary treatment to, under her exciting eye.

Though her choice of fabrics remains contemporarised — georgettes, crapes, chiffons and handlooms — Harshita innovates in her treatment. A unique concept is her hand painted sarees and dupattas (of salwar and chooridar suits), where tiny strokes of painterer’ brush strike a memorable symphony in bold and abstract designs like a piece of art. Rich, vibrant and colourful, these nature-inspired motifs, rendered in the artistic style of Kolkata’s famed art, leave a subtle yet striking impact.

The design range is eclectic and enriched. Harshita works with the finest embroidery schools, embellishing ideas and textural techniques to create a well-coordinated fuss free looks.
