Innovative treatment of contemporary fabrics
DELHITES have yet another reason to rejoice at the onset of the spring-summer season with the opening up of Aura, an upmarket trendy label from Kolkata. The city that has given designers like Kiran Uttam Ghosh and Sabyasachi Mukherjee has another ace up its sleeve — Harshita Chawdhary. Aura by Harshita is located in the upmarket Hauz Khas village and is targeted at beautiful women. It has melange simple cuts, vibrant hues and a kitsch look. Vibrant hues emphasize the joie de vivre of the woman of today. Says Harshita, “My imagination translates itself into designs. I see everything as a beautiful, passionate creation and have been doing so as long as I can remember.” Her forte lies in craftsmanship, a legacy that the medley of unknown and faceless kaarigars, settled in the remote hamlets of West Bengal, preserve and give contemporary treatment to, under her exciting eye. Though her choice of fabrics remains contemporarised — georgettes, crapes, chiffons and handlooms — Harshita innovates in her treatment. A unique concept is her hand painted sarees and dupattas (of salwar and chooridar suits), where tiny strokes of painterer’ brush strike a memorable symphony in bold and abstract designs like a piece of art. Rich, vibrant and colourful, these nature-inspired motifs, rendered in the artistic style of Kolkata’s famed art, leave a subtle yet striking impact. The design range is eclectic and enriched. Harshita works with the finest embroidery schools, embellishing ideas and textural techniques to create a well-coordinated fuss free looks. Finnish lawmakers in Noida Film City
