Salwan Boys School enter final

New Delhi, February 17
Salwan Boys School, Old Rajinder Nagar defeated Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh by 83 runs and entered the final of the third Ganga School Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the school ground.

Scores: Salwan Boys: 181 for 7 in 30 overs (Narender Singh 78, Rajat Gupta 54, Rajeev Sharma 33, Sidharth Mandlay 4 for 24).

Hansraj Model School: 98 for 9 in 30 overs (Sidharth Mandlay 45 n o, Gurpreet Singh 4 for 12, Rohit Saini 2 for 16, Deepak Rai 3 for 8).

Puneet Mehra shines

An all-round display by Puneet Mehra (105 and 4 for 24) and deadly bowling by Harjinder Singh (3 for 33) helped R P Academy defeat Sonnet Club by 19 runs and entered the final of the second Shanti Gyan Niketan Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Najafgarh ground.

Scores: R P Academy: 223 for 3 in 35 overs (Puneet Mehra 105 n o, Mukul Dagar 41).

Sonnet Club: 204 for 9 in 35 overs (Manan Sharma 47, Sobhit Kaushik 39, Puneet Mehra 4 for 24, Harjinder Singh 3 for 33).

ICICI Bank advance

ICICI Bank defeated Aviva by 24 runs in the Reebok Cricket Tournament at the Palam ground.

Scores: ICICI Bank: 96 for 9 in 20 overs (Vikas Prashad 41, Puneet Dayal 3 for 13, Nirlipt Singh 3 for 14).

Aviva: 72 all out in 19 overs (Vineet Kumar 26, Puneet Dayal 20, Vikas Prashad 3 for 16, Gaurav Ahuja 3 for 10).

EXL win in Suntan Cup

Exl Service Dotcom defeated Wipro Spectramind by 47 runs in the 8th Suntan Cup Cricket Tournament at the Vinay Marg ground.

Scores: EXL Service: 253 for 6 in 25 overs (Kunal Punj 84, Gregory Saldhana 66, Kapil Mehra 37, Manish Kumar 4 for 52, Deepak 3 for 40).

Wipro: 206 for 8 in 25 overs (Deepak 56, Suraj 28 n o, Kunal 3 for 26, Amit Rawat 2 for 17).

Central School lift Delhi taekwondo title

Central School, Andrews Ganj won the Delhi Inter-School Taekwondo Championship at the Bal Vidya Niketan School, Saket. Manav Bharti School got the second position and Jyoti Taekwondo School the third slot.

The tournament was inaugurated by Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri.

Central School won 18 gold, Manav Bharti lifted 14 gold and Jyoti Taekwondo annexed 12 gold. Ruchit, Kovida, Diva, Vinayak and Abhishek were among the individual gold medal winners.

Diva was declared the best in the junior section and Vineeta the best in the senior section.

Khalsa College enter semi-final

New Delhi, February 17
Khalsa College, Patiala edged past St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore 1-0 to enter the semi-final of the Nehru Champion Colleges Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Tuesday.

Jatin Kumar scored the match-winner in the sixth minute. College of Arts and Education, Annamalai, sneaked past NAS (PG) College, Meerut 4-3, after leading by 3-2 at half time.

Sudharsan scored the first goal for Annamali in the seventh minute while A Ravikumar made it 2-0 four minutes later. Ravikumar also struck the fourth goal in the 54th minute but in between, Meerut staged a wonderful fight back to score two quick goals through Jatinder Sardha in the 18th minute and 32nd minute to level the score. The second goal was scored off a penalty stroke.

Three minutes before half time, Satish Kumar put Meerut in the lead with a fine field goal. But immediately on resumption, Chandrasekhar equalised and Ravikumar then scored the match-winner. Annamali have also qualified for the quarter-final.

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Aligarh defeated Guru Nanak Khasla College, Yamuna Nagar 3-1. M Nasir opened the account for Aligarh in the sixth minute while Danish Khan added the second goal on resumption. Nasir struck again to get the third goal while Manpreet Singh reduced the margin for Guru Nanak.

Cricket stars to lock horns with film stars

New Delhi, February 17
Cricket stars will challenge film stars in a charity cricket match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday from 12 noon.

The match, christened “Score With a Smile”, will be organised by Khushii, which is an organisation of people who, independently and together, have acted dynamically for the empowerment of the disadvantaged. Film Star and Union Minister Shatrughan Sinha’s wife Poonam is the chief patron of the match.

Cricket icons like Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Yuvraj Singh and Javagal Srinath will test their skills against film stars Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Kathreena Kaif, Arshad Warsi and Zayed Khan. Hockey ace Dhanraj Pillay and football wonder Baichung Butia will also add sheen to the mega charity match.

Mandira Bedi will entertain the crowd with her “live” commentary. And Shiamak Davar and Sunidhi Chauhan will also give electrifying performances to keep the crown entertained.

CM promises all help for NCA-BCCI project

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has assured vice-chairman of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) C K Khanna all help for creating additional infrastructure for promotion of cricket in Delhi.

Mr Khanna, who is also the vice-president of the DDCA and chairman of the Communication and Co-Ordination Committee of the BCCI, said the Chief Minister has promised her full support to the proposed NCA-BCCI project.

Mayapuri Club defeated Maulana Azad Club by nine wickets in a DDCA A-II League match at the University ground.

Scores: Maulana Azad Club: 130 for 9 in 30 overs (Mohd Rehman 39, Ritesh Sinha 4 for 19, Ravi Shankar Tripathi 3 for 15).

Mayapuri: 131 for 1 in 19.3 overs (Mayank Sethi 72, Aditya Aima 45 n o). Rajender Nagar Colts defeated MCD by four wickets in an A-I Division at the Yamuna complex ground.

Scores: MCD: 80 all out in 23.5 overs (Anil Kumar 30, Manish Chaudhary 3 for 15, Chetan Joshi 3 for 16). R N Colts: 81 for 6 in 23 overs (Ankit Lamba 23, Ajay Tiwari 2 for 18).

Super Star beat Canara Bank by three wickets in an A-II Division match at the Delhi University ground.

Scores:

Canara Bank: 119 for 9 in 35 overs (Ashok Arora 20, Vikrant Sehwag 4 for 19).

Super Star: 120 for 7 in 31.2 overs (Vipin Bhatia 29, Deepak Kumar 23, Om Prakash 3 for 21).

Paragon defeated Ministry of Information and Broadcasting by ten wickets at the Ramjas ground.

Seminar on hockey coaching and umpiring

New Delhi, February 17
A two-day seminar on hockey coaching and umpiring was organised by the Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament Society in New Delhi. The coaching seminar was conducted by former Olympian and Indian team coach M P Ganesh while international Grade-I umpire Kuku Walia conducted the umpires’ seminar.

The seminars laid stress on the changes being brought about in hockey umpiring and coaching. The seminar was attended by Olympians Nandy Singh and Harbinder Singh. Mr Ganesh, who is also the executive director (team’s wing) of the Sports Authority of India, was also requested to setup a Research and Development Department in the SAI.

Duleep Trophy tie at Teri

The Duleep Trophy cricket match between South Zone and England ‘A’ will be held at the Teri Oval ground at Gual Pahari, Gurgaon district from February 21 to 24.
