Inter-college fine arts contest

Ludhiana, February 17
Students from five colleges participated in an inter-college fine arts contest held at Ramgarhia Girls College here yesterday.
More than 50 students participated in events like still life, life drawing, landscape, composition, poster making and collage making. Mr Jagat Singh, president of the Ramgarhia Educational Council, was the chief guest. Ms Harmit Kaur, Principal, was also present on the occasion. The results of the contest are : Still life: Varinder Kaur of the Government College for Women 1, Varinderjeet Kaur of the Government College for Women 2 and Jaspreet Kaur of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women 3; life drawing: Parminder Kaur of the Government College for Women 1, Sonjeet Kaur of the Khalsa College for Women 2 and Sumeet of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women 3; landscape: Satwinder Kaur from Guru Nanak Khalsa College 1, Soniya from Ramgarhia Girls College 2 and Jaspreet Kaur of the Khalsa College for Women 3; poster making: Preeti Devgan of the Government College for Women 1, Harsimran of the Government College for Women 2 and Tinky of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women 3; and collage making: Gaganpreet Dhami of the Government College for Women 1, Aarti Sharma of the Government College for Women 2 and Rupali from Ramgarhia Girls College 3.

Quiz, ad making contests held

Ludhiana, February 17
Over 1,000 students participated in quiz, advertisement designing and poster-making competitions held at Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College here today.
The quiz contest was based on questions pertaining to business and professional world. More than 50 entries were received for advertisement designing competition. A team of three students was selected from each class and they were assigned a product to be launched in the market.

The topics assigned to different teams, included Indian cold drink, orange chocolate, trouser, bread and cooking oil. The students were told to design an advertisement campaign with logo and slogan, giving the benefits of the product. As many as 25 entries were received for a psychological poster making contest on product launching.

Ms Kanchan Kalia, organsier, said the event was being organised by Monte Carlo at college, city, state and then national level.

Fellowship for PAU scientist

Ludhiana, February 17
Dr H.S. Sehgal, senior scientist (fisheries) from the Department of Zoology and Fisheries, Punjab Agricultural University, has been awarded a fellowship and a gold medal by the Indian Academy of Environmental Sciences for his outstanding contribution to research and development in the field of fisheries and environment.

The award was conferred on Dr Sehgal at a function organised during the ‘National Conference on Fish and their Environment’ held at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, recently. He is also a fellow of the prestigious Inland Fisheries Society of India, Barrackpore, West Bengal.

Dr Sehgal has done research in natural fisheries resource management, fish nutrition, and fish processing and post-harvest technology. He has done his post-doctoral research at the University of Washington, Seattle, during 1987-89. He has made several professional visits to countries like USA, Canada, Hungary, Greece, Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia. he has successfully completed research projects funded by international funding agencies like the International Foundation for Science (IFS), Sweden, and National Agricultural Technology Project (NATP).
