CAT held amid tight security

Ahmedabad, February 15
Amid tight security, the Common Entrance Test (CAT) for Indian Institute of Management (IIM) courses, rescheduled after being cancelled in November following leak of question papers, was held today in 26 cities across the country.

“The re-test was conducted successfully. Around 1.27 lakh students took the test across the nation,” Bakul Dholakia, Director IIM Ahmedabad, told reporters here.

“We had taken several precautionary measures, including changing the press where questions papers are printed, having additional security both at the examination centres and during the transportation of the trunks carrying the question papers,” he added.

“The aim of all IIMs will be to ensure that the next academic session starts in the last week of June, 2004, as per the original schedule,” he added.

“It is expected that the shortlisting of candidates for personal interview and group discussion will be done by the first week of March and the process of conducting personal interviews and group discussion will start from the last week of March. The CAT group has decided that admissions to IIMs will be finalised by the first week of May,” he said.

For the first time in 28 years, the CAT examinations were cancelled in November last year after the CBI busted a gang, headed by a doctor, that allegedly leaked the question paper and sold it to candidates. — PTI
