Students doing Ph.D and working as research fellows also participated in the rally. Carrying banners with the messages like “We feed the nation, who will feed us?”, the students of agriculture sat on dharna outside the residences of the minister as well as the MLA. Mr Gurbir Singh Bhullar, spokesperson, Punjab Agriculture Students Association (PASA), said every year more than 220 BSc, 150 MSc and 35 PhD students completed their degrees in agriculture but they remained unemployed for years. Under such circumstances, he said, nearly 3000 agriculture graduate and postgraduate students all over Punjab were without any jobs at this stage. While there were 2,400 posts for agricultural officers, posts of only 700 ADOs had been filled at this stage. Meanwhile, the association held a meeting with Mr Ajmer Singh, Director, Agriculture, Punjab, during a state-level workshop on kharif crops held at PAU on Thursday.
