Shobhit, Siddarth hit centuries for Salwan

Shobhit Kaushik (119, 19x4) and Sidharth Sharma (110 n o) hit centuries to help Salwan Boys School defeat Government School, Vikaspuri by 220 runs and entered the final of the seventh Rohtak Road Gymkhana Inter-School Under-16 Cricket Tournament for the R P Jain Trophy at the Bharat Nagar ground.

Scores: Salwan Boys: 301 for 3 in 40 overs (Shobhit Kaushik 135, Siddarth Sharma 110 n o, Pradeep Sangwan 2 for 47). Govt School, Vikas Puri: 81 all out in 29.4 overs (Pradeep Sangwan 32, Shyam Sunder 30, Anand Marich 3 for 16, Tauseef Ahmad 3 for 12, Yogesh Nagar 3 for 9).

Rohtak Road Gymkhana defeated Modern School, Barakhamba Road by five wickets to enter the final.

Scores: Modern School: 147 for 9 in 40 overs (Arjun Gupta 32 n o, Mohit Malhotra 30, Manan Sharma 27, Sagar Midda 6 for 28, Dileep Dhunna 3 for 24).

R R Gymkhana: 148 for 5 in 36 overs (Chayan Kokcha 41 n o, Sourabh Pasi 37 n o, Tarang Gupta 27, Manan Sharma 3 for 35).

Sahara sail into final

Air Sahara defeated Collage Group on better run average after playing a tied match to move into the final of the V N Karwaria Cup Cricket Tournament at the Madan Mohan Malviya Stadium.

Scores: Collage Group: 208 all out in 40 overs (Farman Ahmad 63, Rakesh Singh 40, Sachin Chaudhary 24, Mahender Pal 3 for 42, Umesh Choudhary 2 for 30, Ajit Chandela 2 for 22.

Air Sahara: 208 for 9 in 40 overs (Mohd Atiq 48, Balram Yadav 40, Deepak Bhatnagar 38, Brijesh Rai 39, Sachin Choudhary 2 for 35, Adil Ahmad 2 for 13, Sanjay Saini 2 for 42).

Sahara had beaten Indian Airlines by one wicket in the last over of the semi-final.

Hindu annex title

Bhuvnesh Sharma cracked a brilliant 97 with four boundaries and left-arm spinner Aprajit Singh took four wickets for 28 runs to help Hindu College defeat SGTB Khalsa College by 71 runs to annex the Inter-College Cricket Tournament at the Delhi University Sports Complex ground on Sunday.

Hindu College won the toss and elected to bat. But they got into trouble when they lost three quick wickets to be reduced to 11 for 3 and then 34 for 4. But the damage was undone when Bhunesh Sharma and Suhail Sharma came together to hoist 78 runs to take Hindu to a total of 218 for 8. In reply, Khalsa College were shot out for 146 in 36.2 overs.

Scores: Hindu College: 217 for 8 in 40 overs (Bhuvnesh Sharma 97, Suhail Sharma 34, Sachin Rana 35, Aman Arora 2 for 30).

Delhi Colts, DTC win in DDCA League

Delhi Colts defeated State Bank of India (SBI) by four runs in an A-I Division match of the DDCA League at the Mohan Meakin ground.

Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) defeated Rajdhani Club by eight wickets in an A-I Division match at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground.

Scores: Delhi Colts: 197 for 8 in 40 overs (Gautam Kumar 52, Suraj Verma 36, Dalbir Rathi 28, Kuldeep Diwan 2 for 40, Hitesh Sharma 2 for 45, Zeeshan Mohd 2 for 48).

SBI: 193 all out in 39.3 overs (Kuldeep Diwan 40, Ajay Verma 35, Suraj Verma 4 for 37, Gautam Kumar 2 for 31).

Rajdhani: 163 for 8 in 35 overs (Dushyant Nagar 52, Shahid Jamal 42, Pardeep Kumar 3 for 22, Mahes Sharma 2 for 38). DTC: 164 for 2 in 27.5 overs (Kulvinder Singh 56, Mahesh Sharma 31 n o, Dalip Kumar 30, Ramesh Sharma 29).

Arun Mobeyi takes home golf title

New Delhi, February 8
Arun Mobeyi came up trumps in the fourth Lt. Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament played at the par-70 Qutab Golf Course on February 7 and 8.

The tournament, organised by DDA, was played on an individual stableford format and Mobeyi, a nine handicapper, played a flawless round which included two birdies and 15 pars to collect 46 stableford points and the title. In a tie for a second place at 45 points, Sabeer Bhatia lost to Dr Rampal on a count back.

In the ladies group, Ashana Monga played a sizzling round to notch up 40 points to win by a clear margin. Mannu Narang won the longest drive competition with 263 yards on the fourth hole. The closest to the pin was won by Dr S K Mathur.

Black Dog lift Gold Vase

Black Dog defeated Aravali Polo by six goals to three to bag the Lipton SMS Gold Vase (eight-goal) Polo Tournament at the Jaipur Polo ground on Sunday.

Lt Gen. V G Patankar, quartermaster-general and Maj. Balbir Singh, vice-president of the Army Polo and Riding Club, gave away the prizes.

The Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia Gold Cup Polo Tournament will be played from Tuesday. OSR

Advantage North Zone in Vizzy

New Delhi, February 8
Hosts North Zone were in an advantageous position when they reduced West Zone to 145 for 4 at the end of the second day’s play in the Vizzy Trophy Cricket Championship final at the Jamia Millia ground on Sunday.

North Zone, who resumed at 203 for 5, scored off 91 overs, were all out for 294 in the morning and then pushed West Zone to a corner.

If West could end the day on a somewhat comforting note, it was due to the fine knock of Vimal Tandel, who blasted 84 with 11 boundaries.

Scores: North Zone: 296 all out in 132.5 overs (Gaurav Tyagi 50, 7x4; Kesar Chaudhary 44, 4x4; Kuldeep Raval 4 for 62, Harshad Ravle 3 for 53, Bharat Solanki 2 for 53).

West Zone: 145 for 4 in 46 overs (Vimal Tandel 84, Nitin Dhartak 22, Iresh Saxena 1 for 34, Dushyant Sethi 1 for 33, Sudhir Singh 1 for 4).

Thomas Cook bag Galileo Cup

Thomas Cook defeated the Travel Trade Community to bag the Galileo Cricket Max Cup played at the Central Secretariat ground.

A total of 32 teams participated in the tournament. K. D. Singh was declared the man of the series while Vijay Sharma got the man of the match award. Vikas earned the best bowler award. Sartaj Kalra and Peetam Chaudhary got awards for the most number of sixes and fours respectively.
