Students attend lecture on science

Ludhiana, January 15
With a view to developing scientific approach among students, the Bharat Jan Gyan Vigyan Jatha organised a lecture-cum-demonstration on ‘How I generate interest in science’ at Ramgarhia Senior Secondary School for Boys, Miller Ganj, here today. The lecture-cum-demonstration was given by Mr Krishan Kapila from the Science Sparks, an NGO dedicated to the development of scientific outlook among students based at Saskatchewan, Canada.

Mr Kapila through several experiments tried to inculcate interest among students in science. “Science makes you analytical, critical and creative. Science means to know truth about everything around us and not to believe in things as they are told to us. The students from the very childhood should try to be analytical and creative and that is why I am continuously meeting the students and trying to educate them on science”, said Mr Kapila.

The participant schools included Ramgarhia Senior Secondary School for Boys, Government High School No 5, Government Multipurpose Senior Secondary School, Ramgarhia Co-Educational High School, Partap Nagar, Government High School Salem Tabri, Government Girls High School, Ramgarh, Government Senior Model School, PAU, Shaheed Bhaghat Singh Senior Secondary School, Haibowal Kalan, Sargodha National Public Senior Secondary school, Government Senior Secondary School, Threeke; Nankana Sahib Public school, S.KS K Educational Institute, New Public High school, Ghumar Mandi and Navyug High School, Parbhat Nagar.

Seminar focuses on globalisation

Ludhiana, January 15
A seminar on ‘Punjabi Mainstream and Globalisation’ - was organised at Ramgarhia Girls College, Miller Ganj here today.
The guests of honour - Mr Nahar Singh, Dr Jagjit Singh from PU, Chandigarh, and Dr Surjit Singh from Muktsar were presented with bouquets of flowers by the students.

Dr Surjit Singh read paper on ‘Globalisation and Punjabi Awareness’. He said that literature taught us many good and traditional things. Globalisation - the word was, perhaps not meant for our society. Multimedia had also played a key-role in promoting globalisation.

Dr Nahar Singh spoke on Punjabi mainstream and globalisation. He stressed that in the era of globalisation, the world had become materialistic. Prof. Inderjit Kaur presented a vote of thanks.

Workshop on ‘education to all’

Ludhiana, January 15
Under the ‘Education to all’ campaign, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administrative Research, Mussourrie, held a workshop recently.
The workshop was attended by delegates from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Andeman and Nicobar Islands.

Mr Major Singh Sandhu, Deputy District Education Officer (Elementary)-cum-district coordinator ‘Education to all’ campaign, Mr Surinder Pal Singh and Prof Pradeep Kumar attended the workshop.

Mr Sandhu said under this Central Government-aided project, all children between 6-14 years of age would be given education at the elementary level till 2010.

He said that the campaign was getting good response at the villages and block levels and the concerned persons were continuously working to make it successful.
