Dental camp

Panchkula, January 8
A dental camp was organised at Government College here today.

According to a press note, a team of doctors from BRS College, Kot Billa, led by Dr Abhimanyu Bassian and 17 other doctors, examined over 300 patients.

The camp was organised by the Red Cross Society and the NSS unit of the college.

New name for anti-malaria programme

The Chandigarh Administration has decided that the National Anti-Malaria programme in Chandigarh will henceforth be known as National Vector-borne Disease Control Programme with immediate effect, a spokesperson of the administration today said.

Immunisation drive

Under the 20-point national family planning programme, the Health Department has launched a campaign to immunise children against various diseases.

According to official sources, 934 children have been provided immunisation against the BCG and the measles and 968 against the DPT.

Silver medal for PU hockey eves

Chandigarh January 8
Panjab University hockey eves returned home this evening with a silver medal in the All-India Inter University Hockey Championship which concluded at Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu on January 5. According to Jaswinder Singh and Gurinder Kaur, the coaches, who accompanied the team, the girls gave a splendid performance.

In their earlier matches, PU defeated MD University, Rohtak, by four goals to two, then in other league matches, PU eves had a goalless draw with GND University, Amritsar.

In another tie, PU again had a draw with Bareilly University 2-2 and then another draw with Mysore University 2-2.

The team is: Savita (captain), Avtar Kaur, Rajnish, Kuldeep Kaur, Prem Lata, Sandeep Kaur, Kawaldeep Kaur, Usha, Jyoti, Suman, Sweety, Rupinder, Pooja, Narinder Pal, Jyoti, Vijayata and Sarbjot kaur.

24 probables for football team

The Chandigarh Football Association has selected 24 probables for the Chandigarh junior team to participate in the 40th Junior National Football Championship (North Zone) to be held at Una.

The selection trials were held at the DAV Senior Secondary School grounds, Sector 8, here today. The selected players will take part in the national meet.

Mr Rakesh Bakshi, the secretary of the association, said the team would leave for Una on January 18. The probables are: Nirmaljit Singh, Jatin, Gurpratap, Mukesh, Ashwani Kumar, Harish Patiyal, Inderpreet Singh, Kuldeep, Sandeep Bisht, Chetan Thakur, Dipankar Sharda, Ritesh Negi, Sunil Rawat, Maninder Singh, Jaspal Singh, Aman, Harpreet Singh, Inderpeet Singh, Conrad, Nitish Malik, Chetan Sharma, Naresh, Akhil and Vikas Pannu.

Udayveer, Samin enter last four

Udayveer Garg and Samin Bhargav surged ahead to move into the last eight of the boys under 10 section of the ongoing Total Tennis Championship at YMCA, Sector 11 today. Digvijay Singh another budding youngster also raced ahead to win his match with ease in this section. In the men singles section, Vikas Sharma the top seed and law student outplayed Devender Kapoor 8-3.

Gagandeep Wasu too moved in the next round by beating Gursimran Brar.

Afghan team visits store

Chandigarh, January 8
The Afghanistan cricket team which is attending a training camp at PCA, Mohali, for the past few days on Thursday visited Punjab Stores in Sector 9, Chandigarh. Mr Allada Noori, president, Afghanistan Cricket Board, Mr Raees Khan, vice-president, along with various cricketers were given a warm welcome. They also tried different varieties of dry fruits available in the store. Mr Sachin Bajaj, Director of the World Cricket Academy was also present. Mr S.K. Mittal, of the Punjab Stores presented souvenirs to the players.
