Special Focus on Gurgaon
Gurgaon could be a happening place for adventure sports
Ravi S. Singh
Tribune News Service

Gurgaon, December 16
If things go according to plan Gurgaon would soon be one of the happening places for organising adventure sports in the future. Pioneering efforts have been done in this field in the Golden Greens Golf Course and Country Club, located about 10 km from here.

The Golden Greens Golf Club, claimed to be Asia’s first 18-hole links golf course, nestled in the foothills of Aravallis Hills, organised a spectrum of adventure sports recently. According to a senior functionary of the club, sports events were organised as an experiment to study the feasibility of formally holding them here.

To give a calendar importance to Sunday’s event, the management authorities of the club timed it with the institute’s celebration of the festive season round the corner. The entire event was packaged as “the adventure mania” with its dominant component being the “Adventure Cup”. The sports events in the agenda were an 18-hole golf tournament and an array of activities like parasailing, hot air ballooning, dirt biking and adventure rolling.

In fact, some of the activities like ballooning and parasailing were organised as competitive events for the first time in Gurgaon. The management authorities of the club roped in retired pilots from the Air Force to ensure smooth conduct of the parasailing event.

The participants in Sunday’s event included the Ambassadors of Argentina and Spain in India, respectively, Mr G. Biritos and Mrs R. Conde, and a number of senior diplomats, corporate heads, technocrats and professionals from other walks of life based in Delhi and Gurgaon.

The club authorities say that if things work according to plan the institute would organise adventure sports periodically and on a larger scale. According to them, the USP of the site of the Golf and Country Club is its scenic locale which is ideally suited for adventure sports.
