VC nominates members to Academic Council

Rohtak, December 16
The Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University, Maj-Gen Bhim Singh Suhag (retd), has nominated Dr Surendr Kumar Malik, principal, All Indian Jat Heroes Memorial College, Rohtak, and Prof. S.B.A. Zaidi, principal, Y. M. D. College, Nuh, to the Academic Council of the University.

Exercising powers under Statute-13 of the MDU Act, the Vice-Chancellor also nominated Dr N K Sharma,

Professor, Department of Neuro-surgery, PGIMs, Dr B. M. Singh Vashist, Reader and Dr A. S. Rathee, lecturer, Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery, PGIMs, to the Academic Council.

These appointments are for a period of two years ending on December 11, 2005. The term of Dr N K Sharma, however, will be upto December 26, 2005.

Dr K. C. Bhardwaj, Controller of Examination, has been given additional charge as Registrar during the absence of Dr A. K. Rajan, who is participating in a workshop at Goa.

Dr Bhardwaj said that the university had already dispatched roll numbers in respect of the MA and M.Com (Final) supplementary examination commencing from December 20. He said that the roll numbers of those candidates, whose particulars have not been verified by the R and S branch have been detained.

If any eligible candidate had not received roll numbers, they may apply for duplicate along with a fee of Rs 50 and a duly attested recent passport size photograph and collect the same personally from the concerned branch.

Meanwhile, delivering an extension lecture on “India-America Strategic Relationship”, Prof B M Jain of Centre for South Asian Studies, Rajasthan University, Jaipur, said that relations between countries were determined by power status, geo-political considerations which shape these relationship.

He said that a process of transformation had begun in the realm of Indo-US relationship. Containment of terrorism was a core issue of mutual co-operation between the two countries. The American think-tank, he remarked, now consider India as a “strategic opportunity”.

He, however, cautioned that long term implications of Indo-US strategic partnership need to be studied vis-a-vis dynamics of world-power-relationships.

Prof B. M. Jain also delivered an extension lecture on “Research Methodology” under the aegis of the Department Political Science. He categorically stated that Researchers must strive for `objectivity’ in their research work and dwelled at length on various aspects of research methodology.

Man Acquitted

Sonepat: The First Class Judicial Magistrate of Sonepat, Ms Rajni Yadav, acquitted one Shiv Kumar of Arya Nagar for lack of evidence in a case of power theft.

According to a repot, the officials of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) had lodged an FIR with the police against Shiv Kumar for tampering with the electricity metres. OC

Buddy Davis has launched its Winter Collection, which claims to “keep you warm and snug even with drastically dropping temperatures”. We were told that “the innovative concepts, styles and designs have been conceptualised in an in-house internationally recognised Biondi Studio to cater to the trend setting men and women who want to explore and redefine fashion.”

The collection offers a “balance of modern and seasonal styles”. The entire range is divided into particular categories namely, Outdoor Range, which consists of over dyed sweaters, jackets, shirts and cargo pants. Denim shirts are embellished with hand embroidery and asymmetric stripe shirts on bias to be teamed up with jackets.

The jackets are available in a variety of fabrics and styles like fur lining and multiple layers. The collection also comprises of knits, there is a major shift from circular knits to flat knits this season. The entire range is available in bright fashion colours to be coordinated with denims and other chic fashion accessories this winter.

Wide array of styles in uppers and lowers have been incorporated in this collection to complement the wardrobe of fashionable and trendy customers. Including, designer jackets woven trousers, tracksuits, sweaters, and mufflers and unusually designed denims available in various knits and materials like lycra and corduroy.

Monte Carlo has an exclusive collection for ladies this winter. They have launched Monte Carlo Woollen Kurtis. It’s a fusion collection, which includes Kurtis with modern cuts with slit sleeves and different necklines and tradition Lucknowi chikan kari embroidered around the Swarovski beads and shells.

Meant to be worn with western outfits, this collection has been inspired by the rich Nawab culture from Lucknow. The range has aesthetically integrated embroideries with sequence work on the traditional patterns using bright colour threads to give vibrancy.

The collection also includes woollen tops in brilliant colour combinations, hooded sweaters with stripes, stoles designed using shells, beads, and sequence patterns and fringes and the colours are Turquoise, Fuchsia and Black. Also on offer are capes, cardigans and warn innerwear.

Unravelling the real life of the poor

Showcasing the life of the poor and the marginalised, ‘The Joy of giving’, a movie, has received ‘Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award 2003’. The movie made as part of the ActionAid India’s ‘Karam Mitra’ initiative is now set to go international with the participation in forthcoming renowned film festivals including Prague, Hollywood Film Festival, Human Rights Festival at California and One World Festival at London.

The film is the teamwork of Avinash K. Singh and Ms Geeta Sawhny. The filmmakers recall a trip to Secunderabad to start the journey of the film. In Secundrabad, they began their first ever interaction with sex workers. Some of who were just 15 and had been in the profession for over two years.

The story of the life of these girls, betrayed by the society is spine chilling. The film crew pointed out, “some incidents that she (a sex worker) narrated churned our stomachs and the strange bit was that though language was a block, she was a Marathi who only spoke Telegu her pain and desperation transcended the language barrier.”

The film is a part of ActionAid India fundraising program, ‘Karm Mitra’. This is a unique form of ‘Donor Loyalty’ program for the people who are ready to share a minor part of their income and in return can receive many benefits.

A coiffeur’s show

L’Oreal Professional and Paul Huege de Serville, a hairdresser from New Zealand, gave insights on hair dressing in the Capital recently. Paul also hosted an interactive workshop on hair care and demonstrated the latest haircuts.

A presentation on career opportunities as a hairdresser was also presented with Paul, the founder of the Serville Academy acting as the counsellor.
