Lanka examines feasibility of metro rail with DMRC
New Delhi, December 15
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been approached by the Government of Sri Lanka for examining the feasibility of metro rail system for Colombo. The Urban Development Minister, Mr Bandaru Dattatraya, today told the Lok Sabha that no agreement, however, has been signed to the effect. He said the DMRC had awarded a contract to a consortium of Japanese and Korean companies for commissioning 240 coaches for the Delhi Metro.

Two inter-state auto criminals arrested
Ghaziabad (Hapur), December 15
The Babugarh Police have arrested two inter-state criminals involved in vehicle thefts after an encounter on the Ganga canal road near Rasoolpur village. The police also seized three stolen motorcycles from them. Country-made revolvers, live cartridges and knives were also seized from the arrested criminals. The criminals were wanted in a number of auto thefts in Delhi, Haryana and UP, the police said.

Criminals arrested for extorting money, arms seized
New Delhi, December 15
The West district police claimed to have arrested two criminals, identified as Diwan Chand alias Lala (30) and Sunil (22), residents of Raghubir Nagar while they were on their way to extort money from a businessman in Raghubir Nagar.

A notorious criminal, identified as Arvind Chauhan, stated to be the member of the Surinder Barwala gang, was arrested during night patrolling by the Rai police near the Yamuna river, about 15 km from here last night. According to a report, the criminal made an attempt to escape but was overpowered by the police after a hot chase.

Neetu Kumari of Miranda House bettered her own triple jump record when she cleared 11.14 metres to rewrite her own record of 11.04 metres in the Delhi University Inter-College Athletic Meet for men and women at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday. Rachana Sharma of Miranda House took the silver while Amrita Bisht of Kamla Nehru accounted for the bronze.
