Overcoming emotional trauma through creativity
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, December 3
Trauma that stems from violence transcends the boundaries of age, sex and region. In the Valley, where everyday existence is shadowed with fear, children have perhaps been the worst victims.

Denied a childhood they rightly deserve, these children have now become the focus of attention. And with concern building, attempts are being made through theatre to heal these children.

In the Capital for two-days, the children from the Valley along with those from the migrant camps in the Capital and Jammu gave expression to their emotions through drama.

The initiative is the brainchild of Yakjah, meaning ‘together’ in Kashmiri, a group of professionals working with the children to create “safe spaces” in association with Pandies Theatre. The workshop that culminated in the Capital’s Dilli Haat showcased the talent of these children. The festival was divided into two segments, including interactive discussions and workshops followed by performances.

The children brought out their own productions, which were staged during the last two-days.
