A.S. College tops in PU youth fest

Khanna, December 2
A.S. College here has won the first position in the Punjab University Zonal Youth Festival Ludhiana (Zone-B) organised at A.S. College for Women here. The college won 28 medals in the festival.

Mrs Bhardwaj, the Principal of the college said in a press note issued here today that the college had won nine first prizes, 11 second prizes and eight third prizes. Guru Nanak National College has secured the second position by securing seven first prizes, five second prizes and six third prizes. The third position was captured by SCD Government College for Boys, Ludhiana, by winning seven first prizes, four second prizes and four third prizes.

Tiny tots charm in fancy dresses

Ludhiana, December 2
Yesterday was an exciting day for the children of Tender Foot Nursery School as a fancy dress show was arranged. The tiny tots had come in varied fancy dresses attired like brides, bridegrooms, doctors, politicians and policemen.

Some students had dressed up as historical figures like Shravan Kumar, Lord Krishna and Dhruva Bhagat while others chosen to dress like popular TV serial characters like Son Pari and Karishma, a Rajasthani girl and folk dancers.

Gifts were distributed among the students.

Hindi Putri Pathshala bags trophy

Hindi Putri Pathshala Senior Secondary Khanna has won the first position in table tennis and badminton and the second position in volleyball in the All-India Mahatma Hans Raj Aryar Tournament organised by DAV College Managing Committee New Delhi.

The tournament was held at DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, Ludhiana. Hindi Putri Pathshala bagged the overall champion trophy in the tournament.

Students gear up for science contests

Nearly 18 students and two teachers, who had won prizes in district-level science competitions last month, are now busy in their final preparations for the state-level competitions to be held at Baba Zorawar Singh Fateh Singh School, Fatehgarh Sahib, from December 3 to 5.

Poet Didar Pardesi honoured

Sat Guru Ram Singh Chintan Adara and the Naamdhaari Kala Kendra jointly organised a cultural programme"Sur Mai Shamm-S Didar Singh Pardesi Ke Naam" to honour world renowned poet Didar Singh Pardesi at Malhotra Mahal, Urban Estate, Dugri, here last evening.

The function was presided over by Mr Jagmohan Singh Naamdhari, while Dr Rattan Singh Jaggi, and Dr Surjit Singh Patar were the chief guests. Special guests of honour were Dr Kewal Dheer, general secretary, Adeeb International, and Mr Pargat Singh Grewal, Prof Mohan Singh, who were honoured by Mr Jagmohan Singh Naamdhari. Mr Gurbachan Singh Grover, Dr Shiv Gupta, president, United Nations Youth Organisation, Mr Ashok Malhotra, Mr Manjit Singh Jawaddi, Suba Harbhajan Singh, Principal Gurbachan Singh Grewal were among those present on the occasion

Didar Singh Pardesi presented his famous ghazal "peetein hain nazar se roz magar- hathon mein hamare jaam nahin" while Dr Surjit Patar's poem "Chal patar hun dhoondan chaliye- bhulian hoeinan thanwa" and Shiv Kumar Batalvi's poem "Raat chandani main tura merey naal ture parchhawan," were much appreciated .

Didar Singh Pardesi, Mr Harman Raj Singh Raju, Dr Surjit Patar, Dr Rattan Singh Jaggi and Dr Kewal Dheer were also honoured and awards of honour were presented Mr Dalip Singh Naamdhari and Mr Ajit Singh Layal, president and general secretary of Satguru Ram Singh Chintan Adara, respectively. Mr Jagmohan Singh Naamdhari, Managing Director of Oster Knitwear, assured the audience that such cultural programmes would regularly be presented in different parts of the city so as to boost the morale of poets who have brought fame to Punjab in England, the USA, Canada, Africa, Australia and other European countries.
