PU Syndicate may hike
M.Phil scholarship

The Panjab University Syndicate will consider an increase in the
scholarship of research scholars in M.Phil from Rs 600 to Rs 1,000 per
month from the forthcoming academic session.

Students of GGDSD College, Sector 32, brought a smile to the face of
42-year-old Tarkeshwar Singh, hailing from Jharkhand, here today, by
contributing Rs 23,000 required for a kidney transplant.

Variety
show at school function
Chandigarh, December 2
Stepping Stones School, Sector 38, celebrated its 20th annual function
with a variety programme here today. Students from pre-nursery to
Class X presented the national heritage through dances and plays,
skating and gymnastics, all working to relay the overall theme of
India’s unity amidst its diversity.

bonanza by Mount Carmel kids

A colourful cultural programme marked the annual day-cum-founder’s
day celebrations of Mount Carmel School, Mohali, at the Tagore Theatre
here today. The programme commenced with “Vandana” followed by a
welcome speech by a student. The cultural extravaganza began with
“The Twinkling Stars” and “Dhitang Dhitang Bole”. An English
Play, “Honesty is the Best Policy”, was appreciated by the
audience. The Senior Associate Editor, The Tribune, Mr A.J. Philip,
was the chief guest at the function.

Schools
not adhering to language policy,
says board chief
Mohali, December 2
The language policy of the Punjab Government is being compromised in
certain schools affiliated to the CBSE as these are not giving
importance to Punjabi language. These views were expressed by Dr Kehar
Singh, Chairman of the Punjab School Education Board, while talking to
mediapersons here today.

note said here today.
Fresh notice to
former Adviser

A local court today issued a fresh notice to former UT Adviser
Virendra Singh to set aside his order of allegedly allowing Kumar
Brothers (chemists) Private Limited to run a chemist shop at a lower
rental for December 22. The counsel for Kumar Brothers sought more
time to file a reply in the case.

murder accused acquitted
Chandigarh, December 2
A local court has acquitted nine persons accused of murdering Pal
Singh Pala, a former sarpanch of Khuda Alisher village. The suspects
were acquitted as the three prime witnesses in the case, including the
deceased’s wife Maya Kaur, son, Gursewak Singh and another person
Dilbagh Singh turned hostile.

Jail break case
Chandigarh, December 2
In less than a year after the trial court acquitted the accused under
the Explosive Substances Act in the Burail jail break case, Mr Justice
Amar Dutt of the High Court today granted UT Administration leave for
appeal. Taking up the case, Mr Justice Dutt also admitted the appeal.
Badal
exempted from personal appearance
in case against CM
Chandigarh, December 2
A former Chief Minister of Punjab Mr Parkash Singh Badal, was today
exempted from personal appearance in a case filed by him against the
Chief Minister of Punjab, Capt Amarinder Singh, by the UT Chief
Judicial Magistrate, Mr C.L. Mohal.

The Additional Sessions Judge, Mr H.S. Bhangoo, today reserved his
orders on the applications moved by former Principal of Hansraj Public
School, Sector 6, Dr (Mrs) Rajani Thareja, and the DAV College
Managing Committee till December 5.
