Cops booked for firing at rally Solan, November 27 The action has been taken following the submission of a fact-finding inquiry report by the Additional Superintendent of Police to the SP, Solan. The case pertains to the forcible arrest of INTUC chief of Himachal unit Amarjit Bawa by the Haryana Police party from Nalagarh where he was addressing a workers meeting. Bawa was let off later after protest from his supporters. The SP, Mr Abhishek Trivedi, said though the persons responsible for opening fire on the workers could not be identified, the report had established the fact that there was unprovoked firing by a youth in civil clothes. He was reported to be sitting on the left side of the front seat of a Haryana Police Gypsy and had accompanied the police personnel there. The report has further pointed out that the Haryana Police party which had come in five-six vehicles had neither informed the local police about this arrest nor had produced any copy of the warrant as claimed by them prior to the arrest. Even information regarding firing in an area not falling within their jurisdiction had not been furnished by them to the local police. The SP said the DSP, Nalagarh had been further instructed to inquire into the matter and identify the persons responsible for firing shots in the air. No bullets were recovered from the spot. The two HP police constables posted at the spot had also failed to identify the culprit, the report pointed out. It was after intervention by the Baddi police that the Haryana Police party that had forcibly arrested Bawa was intercepted and a large group of sloganeering Bawa supporters pacified to control the situation. |
Cassettes prove Katwal’s involvement, says Cong Shimla, November 27 Mr Naresh Chauhan, spokesman of the party, said that destroying records of recruitment after three months and recording telephonic conversation of Opposition leaders were part of a criminal conspiracy hatched by those who sold jobs for cash. He said it was amusing that Mr Dhumal and other BJP leaders had been maintaining that the data retrieved from hard disks of computers of the former Chief Minister office by the Central Forensic Laboratory, Hyderabad, was not admissible as evidence but terming the audio cassettes as an incontrovertible evidence against the Congress leaders. He said the BJP leaders were raising much hue and cry over the ongoing vigilance inquiry only to create a impression among people that they were being implicated in false cases. The fact was that they were aware of their “misdeeds” and feared exposure as was evident from the data retrieved from the hard disk. |
