Fake voter I-card racket busted
New Delhi, November 24
In the midst of electioneering, the Delhi Police have busted a racket in fake voter I-cards with the arrest of three persons and seized a number of forged electoral documents. The suspects were identified as Kamal Sharma, Anil Kumar and Vishal Jain. The racket came to light when complainant Surender Singh received an identity card from the suspects, which was found to be fake.

The police have launched a massive hunt to trace the half-a-dozen armed assailants who had attacked the PCR staff in the wee hours today in the Mohan Garden area of Uttam Nagar in West Delhi.

Noida turning into haven for criminals
Noida, November 24
About 100 criminals from Bulandshahar, Ghaziabad and other adjoining districts have reportedly taken refuge in Noida. The police department here is considering launching a joint campaign in a number of districts for nabbing those criminals who, after committing a crime in one district, easily slip into the other, according to SSP G K Goswami.

Four killed in head-on collision
Rohtak, November 24
Four persons were killed and 14 injured in a head-on collision between two Tata Sumo vehicles coming from the opposite directions near Gandhr Mor on National Highway no 10 at midnight on Sunday.

HVPN chairman invites workers for negotiations

The Chairman, Haryana Vidyut Parsaran Nigam (HVPN), Maj-Gen (retd) Bhoop Singh Rathi, has invited the HSEB workers union for negotiations on the long-standing demands of the HVPN employees. The negotiations will be held at Panchkula on November 28.

Govt employees to go on nationwide strike on February 11

The central and state government employees will go on a one-day strike across the country on February 11, 2004, in protest against the economic policies and to demand the right to strike.

Nagar kirtan, langar mark Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom anniversary

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee today held a nagar kirtan on the martyrdom anniversary of Sahib Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji which started from Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib. The programme started with the recitation of Sukhamni Sahib and Nitnem followed by Asa Di Var and Shabad Kirtan by famous Ragi Jatha of Bhai Avtar Singh Ji Gurcharan Singh Ji.

CEAI urges govt to include disaster proof norms

The Consulting Engineers Association of India (CEAI) has urged the government to include strict disaster proof and eco-friendly norms, including fire prevention, earthquake proof, use of eco-friendly construction materials and energy conservation for construction of new buildings in the country.

Fake stamp papers discovered in UPSIDC files
Ghaziabad, November 24
The Revenue Department has unearthed stamp evasion amounting to Rs 20 lakh. Besides, the department has again found fake stamps worth Rs 15,300 in the UPSIDC files while scrutinising them in connection with the probe into award contracts on Saturday.

Harrowing tale of high-handedness at the hands of a financier

As many as six persons here have fallen victim to the torture meted out by private financiers and have committed suicide. Despite this the administration has failed to evolve a strategy to put a check on the alleged atrocities committed by financiers while recovering the loans advanced to borrowers.

Burglars, jewellers fall in police net
New Delhi:
The Delhi Police Crime Branch claimed to have arrested Bangladeshi burglars and three jewellers in the Paschim Vihar area and recovered jewellery items from their possession. The police have recovered four pairs of gold tops, one gold chain, one silver chain, silver ‘kamarband’, silver ‘kara’, Titan watches, tape recorders, stolen clothes, mobile phones, knives, screwdrivers and iron rods from their possession.

A half century by Kartikey Bhatia (69) and deadly bowling by Gaurav Jangra (3 for 52) helped Hans Raj Model School topple defending champions Salwan Boys by four runs and entered the final of the H S Sistani Inter-School Cricket Tournament at the Khalsa School ground.

Ritu, Abhigya emerge winners
New Delhi, November 24
Ritu Sejwal of Bloom Public School clocked 36.52 minutes to emerge the winner in the girls section while Abhigya of GNDU posted a time of 32.21 minutes to win the boys event in the 750m swim and 7km run in the Delhi State Aquathlon Championship, organised by the Delhi Triathlon Association, at the Talkatora swimming pool complex.

An all-round display by Abhishekh (45 and 3 for 20) helped J D Tytler School beat Tagore International Shool by eight runs and entered the semi-final of the Bhavan Under-12 Cricket Tournament at the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan School ground.
