Charred remains of 2 businessmen recovered

The Kangra police today recovered the charred remains of two businessmen of Damtal, who had come for the collection of payments, from a forest near Baroh, about 50 km from here. The remains were found in a burnt vehicle, which had rolled about 100 feet down the hill near Sunni Sarotri village.

Irishmen confess to throwing body of Briton into river

Two Irishmen wanted for the murder of a British woman have confessed having thrown her body in a river in Manali but claim they did not kill her, the police said.

Charred remains of 2 businessmen recovered

Dharamsala, October 10
The Kangra police today recovered the charred remains of two businessmen of Damtal, who had come for the collection of payments, from a forest near Baroh, about 50 km from here. The remains were found in a burnt vehicle, which had rolled about 100 feet down the hill near Sunni Sarotri village.

According to the police, it appeared to be a case of murder. The businessmen, identified as Rakesh Gautam and Vijay Kumar, belonged to Sunder Nagar in Pathankot and worked as commission agents in the Damtal market.

The body of Rakesh Gautam bore some injury marks. A case under Section 302 of the IPC was registered.

The police also recovered the body of an unidentified woman near Yol on the Dharamsala-Palampur road. The woman was about 50 years old. No foul play was suspected.

Irishmen confess to throwing body of Briton into river

Shimla, October 10
Two Irishmen wanted for the murder of a British woman have confessed having thrown her body in a river in Manali but claim they did not kill her, the police said.

The questioning of Breath Nach Adrin and James Frank on the death of Anna Hamilton began late Thursday after the two men reported at the office of the police chief in Kulu after having been on the run for over a week.

“Their interrogation began late Thursday. To start with, the main suspect Adrin, who was sharing the room with Anna Hamilton, denied having disposed of her body. This (Friday) morning, both confessed to throwing her body in a river,” Kushal Sharma, Kulu’s Deputy Police Superintendent, told IANS today.

Sharma is questioning the two Irishmen, one of whom told him Hamilton had died of a drug overdose.

Science congress opens in Shimla

Shimla, October 10
Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today exhorted scientists to ensure that scientific development was so directed that it helped in the overall development of society and the country.

Inaugurating the 10th All-India People’s Science Congress organised by the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti here, he said Jawaharlal Nehru had visualised that science had a great role to play in the development of the nation and to achieve this objective he laid emphasis on education and research.

WHO fellowship for Himachal doc

Nurpur, October 10
Dr Mahesh Kumar Saxena, Senior Medical Officer, Subdivisional Civil Hospital, has been nominated for a World Health Organisation (WHO) fellowship. He will attend a four-week course on international sexual transmitted diseases and AIDS.

Dr Saxena is leaving for Bangkok to attend the course being organised by the consortium of Thai training institutes from November 3 to 28. — OC
