PU Senate to consider 5 pc weightage for attendance

Panjab University’s plan to give five per cent weightage to classroom attendance in annual examinations of undergraduate classes from the forthcoming academic session will come up before the university Senate for final approval on October 12, it is reliably learnt.

For murder convicts lodged in Model Jail, Burail, the past 20 days have been all about indulgence in creativity. Emerging from the grim shadow of their present, the accused today came out in fresh colours, that had no tinge of crime. Robbers attack dera; 2 injured
Kharar, October 2
Two persons were seriously injured and cash was looted when a gang of seven robbers struck at Dera Baba Janki Dass in Bhallo Majra village on the Kharar-Mohali road last night. The injured have been admitted to the Civil Hospital here.

BJP launches ‘Gaon-gaon chalo...’

The local unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today launched a campaign, Gaon gaon chalo — ghar ghar chalo targetting the Lok Sabha elections, next year. The campaign started from Hallo Majra village in the city was launched all over the country by the BJP.

The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is starting its Jan Jagran Abhiyaan-Mission 2004 from October 5 by taking out rath yatras in all villages of the district. The BJP state President, Mr Rattan Lal Kataria, will lead the rally from Kali Mandir, Kalka, which will cover various villages of the Ambala Lok Sabha constituency.

Continuing with the Navratra’s celebrations, Brahm Kumaris at the Rajyog meditation centre, Sector 21, have installed Shakti darshan jhankis and a Shakti exhibition. Giving details, an organiser said, “Three tableaux have been set up depicting the significance of the Navratras. Goddess Durga, Saraswati and Jagdamba are the part of the jhankis”.

Cop succumbs to bullet injury
Chandigarh, October 2
After battling for life for three days Head Constable of the Chandigarh police, Surinder Kumar 38, succumbed to the bullet injury he had sustained on September 29, at the PGI today. Meanwhile, the condition of a visually challenged man, Bishan Singh, who was injured in a fall from a building yesterday, is said to be stable.

Mayor announces 3 lakh aid for senior citizens

The UT Mayor, Mr Subhash Chawla, today announced financial help of Rs 3 lakh for senior citizens. He was the chief guest at the celebrations to mark the annual day of the Senior Citizens Forum of Sector 47, besides the International Senior Citizens’ Day.

Jeweller duped of 450-gm gold
Chandigarh, October 2
A Mani Majra-based jeweller, Mr Chaman Lal, reported to the police that he has been duped of 450 gm of gold by Parshant Dusak of Madhopur district, West Bengal. Mr Chaman Lal of Ghanpat Jewellery told the police that he had given the gold to Dusak for preparing ornaments on September 29 but the latter has disappeared with the gold. A case under Sections 406 and 120B of the IPC has been registered.

Coin-dispensing machine to be installed at bus terminus
Chandigarh, October 2
The State Bank of India will soon instal two coin- dispensing machines at the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) and its local headquarters in Sector 17. It will enable customers to get coins of Re 1, Rs 2 and Rs 5 by inserting notes of Rs 10, 50 and 100 denominations, said Mr Yogesh Agarwal, Chief General Manager, SBI, while inaugurating the stall of the bank at the CII fair today.

Students of Golden Bells Public School, Sohana, celebrated Dasehra with fervour and joy, today. The principal of the school enlightened the students about the significance of the festival. Students came dressed up in colourful costumes. Prizes were given to well-dressed students.
