Meerut, September 29
There was considerable tension on the CCS University Campus after incidents of violence on Friday. The tension heightened with the students and their leaders demonstrating outside the V-C’s office; they were seeking the release of students detained in the police station.
With no let-up in the tension till Saturday evening, the VC ordered suspension of all teaching and academic work till October 9, 2003.
The VC, Dr Ram Pal Singh, has taken a serious note of the incidents of ragging and is trying to identify the students involved in the unsavoury activity. The VC also summoned some students into his office for an inquiry into the incidents of violence.
Scores of students have already vacated the varsity hostels. The students, who sat on a dharna outside the VC’s office, alleged that the authorities had falsely implicated some of them in the matter. Later, the V-C was gheraoed in protest.
The University authorities have decided to vacate the boys’ hostel. Already, there is a heavy deployment of the PAC and the police force in Dr B R Ambedkar Hostel, which had been attacked by some students on Friday.
