Healing power of daily prayer

Prayers always help. Frequent prayers help frequently. They provide the positive strokes to the mind, which is the fountainhead of happiness. The power of everyday prayer is boundless. People who make everyday prayer a habit are those who have complete faith in the ultimate rescuing power of God and who bank on the healing power of the Supreme Being.

Mira Bai’s prayers gave her the power to bear the bruises caused by the hostile attitude of the courtiers, as did Draupadi’s prayers. It is recounted that Mother Teresa’s colleagues would often not know where their next meal would come from. They would lift their needs to God in prayers, and sometimes, as in miraculous answer, a truckload of food would arrive from a beneficiary at their doorstep.

These blessings should not be dismissed as miracles. For such miracles await us in the ordinary course of action. In a moment of devotion, we apprehend them.

A prayer uttered as a matter of routine, but a superficial and mechanical task. It is a compulsion of habit and thus does not bring any joy. Where the heart and mind are not connected with the depth of words uttered, the meaning is lost. We must pray to God not as if to placate a stern master, but to have a heart to heart with him.

You will then feel his presence through the day, smiling through every act. Be it a prayer accompanied by rituals or a simple prayer from the heart as you rush to your work, it will calm you and usher in positive feelings. We have all experienced this wonderful healing power when we have had to face the various examinations in life. Thus, a prayer said every morning decongests your mind of negative feelings and brings in morning sunshine into our lives.

Through our prayer, we must honour and thank God for even the little things in life. Praying for favours and daily needs is legitimate, but we must not restrict ourselves to praying for only mundane concerns in life. A prayer said for another person, brings an unprecedented happiness and fulfilment. Often, an everyday prayer can also help us to experience great spiritual heights when the heart is touched by moments that transform our lives.

In such moments, the dark chambers of our mind are filled with holy light, which becomes a guiding force. A prayer ignites the mind to become creative and the genius flows through spontaneously.

A daily prayer has the power to transform our lives from lives of gossip, pettiness and greed to one of sincere commitment to God and our ordinary acts, emotions and responses all become beautiful mediums for our prayer. These are moments of spiritual elevation.

True prayer essentially consists of collecting oneself, concentrating and focusing at the seat of the mind and striving to awaken the inner power. Thus, a daily prayer enriches our lives. It helps us to overcome our daily tribulation. It infuses a fresh hope and enables us to face new challenges with confidence.

These two-minute prayers are more valuable than hours and hours of stressful work. The later bewilders us while the former heals and brings peace and true joy. A prayer is the call of our inner heart. It can never be wrong.
