Nahar Singh Stadium gears up for
ODI Faridabad, September 11 The match will be the seventh one-day international to be held here so far. The stadium, which is about 15-year-old is the only place in Haryana, where one-day international and Test matches could be played. The first one-day was held in January 1988, and the last match was held here was on March 7, 2002, between host India and visiting Zimbabwe team. While no international Test match has been held here so far. Nahar Singh Stadium had been the venue of about 100 Ranji trophy matches. About 15 matches of Duleep Trophy and at least one match of Irani Trophy had been organised here till today. The Pakistan team had played a three-day match against India under-25 team here in 1987. The wicket here is grassy and could be described as good cricketing wicket. According to Mr Sarkar Talwar, a former Ranji Trophy player and presently deputy director (cricket) here, the work of ground preparation for the forthcoming match was in full swing. He said that the wicket had grass and could help both the batsman and fast bowlers. An official of the Australian Cricket Board had visited the stadium recently and reportedly expressed satisfaction over the preparation. Mr Venkat Sundram, chairman of the pitch (ground) committee of the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI), along with a member, Mr Daljeet Singh, had also visited the stadium to discuss the outfield and pitch conditions with Mr Talwar, Mr Vijay Yadav and Mr Dhanraj singh, who have been supervising the work. Mr Talwal disclosed that practice pitches were being readied and the dressing room was being given a new look. The sitting capacity of the stadium is around 25,000, without chairs. The Haryana Cricket Association and the District Cricket Association (DCA) has awarded the contract of the maintenance of the ground and stadium to an independent agency. |
Vanshika to meet Chitralekha in badminton

She will take on Meenakshi, who beat Vanshika 13-11, 6-11, 13-12, in the title contest. Anchal Malhotra will clash against Peppino Behl in the final of the girls under-13 singles. Anchal disposed of Priyanka Arya 11-4, 11-0 while Peppino struggled to overpower Saloni Chopra 2-11, 11-9, 13-12. In the boys singles under-10 semi-final, Harshvardhan defeated Hirdhyanshu 15-3, 15-11. In the girls under-10 singles semi-finals, Abhilasha Mehra beat Shambhavi Bajaj 11-5, 5-11, 11-0 while Shreya Aggarwal defeated Kritika Gupta 11-0, 11-0. Simla Youngs down City Club Simla Youngs defeated former champions City Club 2-1 in a Group B Super League match of the Delhi Soccer Association Senior Division Football League Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium on Thursday. Hitender Singh Rawat put Simla Youngs in the lead in the second minute. City equalised through Faiz Alam in the 66th minute. Manish Kumar Negi scored the match-winner for Simla Youngs during injury time play. Indian Air Force, New Delhi drew 1-1 with New Delhi Heroes. Monitoring committee gives clean chit to
MCD New Delhi, September 11 The spokesman of the MCD said that reports about the sanitation and hygiene condition in the first week of September indicated that 38 per cent of the dhalaos were found to be in good condition, while 53 per cent were in satisfactory condition. The SDMs visited 1,068 dhalaos during the inspections. He said that in a report submitted to the Delhi Government in mid-August, the SDMs had commented that the MCD had failed to do its statutory duty properly. Thereafter, the SDMs were asked by the Chief Secretary to inspect garbage dumps everyday and submit a status report to the government. The zones found in good condition were Rohini, Civil Lines and Narela, the spokesman said.
400 MCD workers to be regularised The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has accepted the long pending demand of the safai karamchari union for the regularisation of 400 karamcharis working on daily wages. The order was placed before the union members yesterday. At least 4, 600 safai kramcharis are working on daily wages in the corporation. The leader of the House, Mr Ram Babu Sharma, assured the secretary of the union, Mr M. S. Matiala, that 2,240 karamcharis would be regularised within four months. |
