100 families
take part in car rally New Delhi, September
7 The rally was flagged off by Union Sports Minister Vikram
Verma from Hotel Ashok at 10.30 am. The family car rally culminated
at Tivoli Gardens near Mehrauli at around 3 pm. It passed through
India Gate, Ritz Road, R K Puram, Moolchand, Greater Kailash and Qutab
Institutional Area, covering the total distance of around 70 km before
it culminated at Tivoli Gardens. It passed over the public roads and
highways, observing all traffic rules and regulations maintaining an
average speed within the specified limit. The rally which has become
an annual affair for Delhiites, was organised by Rashi Entertainment
as a part of its 4th anniversary celebrations in association with
Women’s Era. In this family car rally, organised on International
Time, Distance & Speed (TDS) pattern, a Guiding Route Map (GRM)
was given to each participant with a Tulip Card mentioning the speed
to be maintained, the time to be followed and the distance to be
covered by the rallyists. Control sections and check points were set
up across the route, where the competitors had to get their time cards
stamped. The distance between the check point and the next was to be
covered within the specified time. |

in the Ramjas Inter-School U-17 Cricket Tournament was washed out due to
heavy rains.
Jaladh, Pawan shine A dashing batting display by Jaladh
Dua (91 n o, 8x4, 5x6) and deadly bowling by Pawan Chouhan (3 for 11)
helped DAV School, Shalimar Bagh beat Ramjas School No 5 by 208 runs in
a league match of the second Ramjas Inter-School Under-17 Cricket
Tournament at the Ramjas Sports Complex ground. Jaladh was named the man
of the match. Scores: DAV: 237 for 7 in 35 overs (Jaladh
Dua 19 n o, Sahil Chaugh 27, Tarun Sharma 25, Abhishek Sakuja 25) Ramjas
No 5: 29 all out in 11.2 overs. |
Manoj hits hattrick in Stance’s big victory New Delhi, September 7 Raj Kumar opened the account in the 13th minute, and then Manoj took over the scoring job, hitting home the second and third goals in the 17th and 24th minutes to give the winners a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time. Manoj maintained his fine form on resumption too, scoring the fourth and fifth goals while Rajinder knocked in the sixth goal. Sopi scored two goals in the span of six minutes to complete the tally. Delhi Sports whipped Khalsa Whites 9-0, after leading by 4-0 at half time. Gajinder opened the flood-gate in the eighth minute, and then added the seventh and ninth goals too, while Hitender and Niraj Yadav scored the second and third goals respectively. Sanjeev accounted for the fourth, fifth and sixth goals to record a hattrick while Joga Singh came up with the eighth goal. Rajput Club beat Sonnet 3-1. All the goals came in the second half. Virender struck home the first and third goals while Rajesh accounted for the third goal of Rajput Club. Rajvinder pulled off a consolation goal for Sonnet. The next matches of the league will be played on September 13 (Saturday). |

CRPF clinch overall championship trophy New Delhi, September 7 CRFP clinched the overall championship trophy, which was presented to them by Deputy Prime Minister L. K. Advani, who was the chief guest on the concluding day. CRPF annexed the 4km cross country event while BSF ran away with the 12km cross country championship. CRPF also bagged the high board and spring board diving titles. Inspector Deepak Kumar Singh of CRPF was adjudged the best swimmer while Punjab Police cantered away with the championship trophy in aquatics. Director of the Intelligence Bureau K P Singh declared the championship closed. And also present were CRPF director-general S. C. Chaube and organising secretary O. P. Singh. |

Keen competition in Rajiv Gandhi Swim Meet New Delhi, September 7 The meet was inaugurated by former Speaker of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha and now president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee Ch. Prem Singh. Bablu swam to the first position in the seven-mile race with Samar Mazumdar and Ravi Shankar following him in the second and third position. In the two-mile race for girls, Subhadra, Chanchal and Chandni took the first three places, in that order. In the five-mile section, Bunty stood first, followed by Satyanarayan and Amar Thind. In the three-mile section, Gopal emerged first, while Aswani and Gauri Shankar finished second and third, respectively. In the two-mile and one-mile races, Dinesh, Neeraj and Sumeet and Suresh, Nitin and Sunny claimed the first three positions, respectively. Delhi Urban Development Minister Dr A K Walia gave away the prizes. The winners were awarded cash prizes ranging from Rs 2100 to Rs 101. |
