10-day MTNL Health Mela

Sixteen cases of dengue have been reported so far in the Capital. Health Minister A.K. Walia on Thursday said the Government of NCT of Delhi was taking all steps to prevent the outbreak of dengue and malaria.

He said a 10-day MTNL Health Mela was being organised in association with the government and the non-government organisations to promote preventive aspects of diseases.

The minister also said that the government would initiate talks with the officials of Mother Dairy to popularise soya milk. It was nutritious and lacked harmful components like cholesterol, he added.

Shastri bounce back to win, Shahdara tame Goans

Shahdara tamed Goans 2-0 while fancied Shastri Club hit back to pip Tarun Sangha 3-1 in the Delhi Soccer Association Senior Division League at the Ambedkar Stadium on Thursday.

Shahdara have now collected 12 points from six matches and will take on Simla Youngs in their last match. Goans completed their league engagements and collected five points from seven matches. Bhupinder Thakur opened the account in the 18th minute while Promod Rawat knocked in the second goal in the 50th minute.

Later, in a Group B match, Shastri Club came from behind to beat Tarun Sangha 3-1. Shastri have secured 19 points from seven matches. Tarun Sangha forged ahead through Haradhan Kora who capitalised on a defensive lapse by Tarsem Singh to put the ball in. But Sameer Jung pulled off the equaliser for Shastri in the 19th minute. And then inside-left Nageshwer Rao scored a goal in either half to complete a brace and help Shastri score a facile victory.

Tarun Sangha have earned 12 points from seven matches.

Simla Youngs defeated Raisina Sporting 2-0 in a Group A match at the Nehru Stadium. Inside-left Hitender Singh Rawat scored both the goals, once in each half.

In a crucial match to decide the relegation from Group B at the Nehru Stadium, Collegians defeated Buddhist Blue Stars 1-0. B B Stars have been relegated to the A Division. Striker Bhola Nath Biswan scored the lone goal in the 69th minute.

MRF India Rally in December

India will witness some spectacular motorsport action this December as the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship 2003 returns to the country after the successful Himalayan Rally.

The MRF India Rally 2003 round of the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship will commence with a ceremonial start from the Gateway of India in Mumbai on December 4 and the various stages of the rally will be held along the most scenic and historic dirt roads around the Lake City at Pune over three days from December 5 to 7.

MRF India Rally is being run under the aegis of the FIA, the world body for motorsport, and the Motorsports Association of India, the ASN of the FIA in India. The Himalayan Rally Association is being assisted by the Western India Automobile Association and Western India Sports Association. MRF India Rally will be the final round of the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship and will see some top rally teams from Japan, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, China, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, apart from hosts India. The current standings after the first two rounds of Asia Pacific Rally Championship are: Fumio Nutahara of Japan in a Mitsubishi is on top position with 26 points while Armin Kremer of Team MRF is in second position.

Deepak Kumar swims to record gold in Police Aquatic Championship

New Delhi, September 4
Deepak Kumar Singh of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) clocked a new meet record time of 2:29.93 secs, which obliterated the old record of 2:30.67 secs, to win the 200m breast stroke gold in the 52nd All-India Police Aquatic Championship at the Talkatora swimming pool on Thursday.

M. Premanand of CRPF collected the silver medal while B. Vinaya of Border Security Force (BSF) lifted the bronze medal.

Mandar Anand Divase of BSF struck gold in the 1500m free style with a new meet record time of 16:50.97, which erased the old record of 16:82.48. Kailash Nath and Amar Muralidharan of CRPF won the silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the 100m butterfly, Madhav Sund of Punjab Police won the gold while Ashim Mandal of West Bengal Police and Arjun Muralidharan of the BSF secured the silver and bronze respectively.

In the one-metre spring board diving, Dinesh Chand Badoniya of CRPF won the gold while Melpeddi Gopi of Central Reserve Police Force and Himanshu Sharma of BSF won the silver and bronze respectively.

Manu, Gaurav star in victory

New Delhi, September 4
A fine unbeaten knock of 66 by Manu Sharma and deadly bowling of 5 for 25, which included a hattrick, by Gaurav Jangra helped Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh defeat Ramjas Day Boarding School by 126 runs and enter the quarter-final of the second Ramjas Inter-School Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Ramjas Sports Complex ground. Manu was adjudged the man of the match.

Scores: Hansraj Model School: 186 for 3 in 35 overs (Manu Sharma 66 n o, Sidhant Mandley 55, Sachin Rathi 25, Manish Saini 3 for 27).

Ramjas: 60 all out in 24.2 overs (Angad Valia 27, Gaurav Jangra 5 for 25, Anmol Bhavna 3 for 2, Kartik Bhatia 2 for 2).
