Hair removed from abdomen

Ludhiana, August 8
In a rare case, about half kg of hair was removed from a woman’s abdomen here today. The family of 24-year-old Sulochna got her admitted to hospital, after she complained of acute abdomen pain. Dr Tarlochan Singh said an ultra-sound scan and x-ray were conducted and it was decided to operate upon her immediately.

“After a two-hour surgery, about half a kg of hair was removed from her abdomen. This is a rare case and the disease is called trichobeziar,” he said. According to her family, he was in the habit of eating her mother’s hair. OC

BVM girls win chess titles

Bharatiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Udham Singh Nagar, defeated Sargodha National Senior Secondary School to annex titles in the under-14 and under-19 categories in the Ludhiana Schools Chess Championship (Girls) organised by the Education Department in the indoor multi-purpose hall of the Guru Nanak Sports Complex here today.

In the under-19 category, Teena and Priyanka of BVM School outplayed Ashwinder and Charnajit Kaur of Khalsa National Senior Secondary School, 2-0. In the under-14 category, Jyoti and Khushboo of BVM School beat Manmeet and Vimal of Sargodha School, 2-0.

In gymnastics (girls), Government Senior Secondary School earned 63.30 points to win the title in the 14-year category, while the second place was captured by RS Model Senior Secondary School. St Joseph School gymnasts got 28.90 points to finish at the third spot.

In the under-17 category, RS Model School, with 61.10 points, won the title, followed by Government Senior Secondary School and St Joseph School who scored 41.10 and 28.80 points, respectively.

In the under-19 section, Government School amassed 99.80 points to clinch the title, while RS Model School girls got 81.60 points to finish runners-up. Hindu Putri Pathshala, Khanna, secured 66 points to get the third position.

In rhythmic exercises, RS Model School, with 11.80 points, earned the first place in hoop, while Sacred Heart School, Sarabha Nagar, finished runners-up with 5.20 points. In ribbon, RS Model School with 11.70 points and Sacred Heart School with 4.60 points got the first and the second place, respectively.

In ball exercise, Sacred Heart School girls secured 8.10 points to bag the title followed by RS Model School with 7.10 points.

In rope display, RS Model School clinched the title with 6.50 points.

Kho-kho meet

Shamrock Public School beat BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School in the boys section while in the girls section, Sant Ishar Singh School, Rara Sahib, defeated Green Land Senior Secondary School, GT Road in the 12th Ludhiana Sahodaya School Complex Kho Kho Tournament being held at Bharatiya Vidya Mandir School, Kitchlu Nagar, ground here today.

In the boys section, Shamrock Public School defeated BC Arya Model Senior Secondary School 10-5, Kundan Viya Mandir School outplayed Maharaj Ranjit Singh School, Phillaur, 9-8, GNP School outnumbered SK School, Neelon, 11-6, Alpine International Senior Secondary School trounced Shivalik Doon Wala School, 22-8, and Kundan Vidya Mandir School outclassed Shamrock Public School 14-9.

In the girls section, Sant Ishar Singh School, Rara Sahib, drubbed Green Land Senior Secondary School, GT Road, 10-1.

Cricket tourney

Sacred Heart School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, and Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Road, assured themselves berth in the semi-finals of the Inter-Schools (Gill Zone) Cricket Championship (u-19) here today. Sacred Heart School routed Government Senior Secondary School, Sanghowal, by eight wickets while Nankana Sahib school got walk over Harkrishan Public School, Daba Road.

Sanghowal school’s decision to bat first proved out to be a miscalculation as they were bundled out for a paltry 58 runs in 14 overs. Only Kulwinder played sensibly and contributed 15 runs. For Sacred Heart School, Rohit and Pankaj were successful bowlers claiming three wickets each conceding nine and two runs, respectively.

Sacred Heart School required just six overs to reach the target after losing two wickets. Pranayvir scored 30 runs off just 16 balls to help his school register an easy victory. Gurpreet and Devinder took one wicket each for the losers.

The second match was scheduled to be held between Harkrishan Public School and Nankana Sahib school. The former failed to turn up, Nankana Sahib school got walk over and advanced to the semi- finals.
