Visually challenged excel in BA I exam
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, June 29
Those with determination can fight all handicaps and come out winners. This has been proved by a visually handicapped duo of brother and sister, Vivek Monga and Anu Monga, who have stood first and third, respectively, in Ramgarhia Girls College in BA I examination conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh. Vivek secured 627 marks and Anu scored 615 marks out of 800.

Their younger sister Tanu is overjoyed at the marvellous achievements of her siblings. Their father Shashi Kant is a government employee and mother, Ms Reshma, is teaching in a private school. Both of them attribute their success to determination, support from their family and staff members. They said God has snatched the light of their eyes but given them strong determination instead.

Their mother said ,”They were not born sightless, but started losing their sight gradually between the age of 8 and 10 years. Our native town is Sirsa but when they lost sight, we admitted them in the School for Visually Challenged on the Chandigarh road. But later we too shifted to Ludhiana to provide them security and comforts of home as they felt lonely living in the hostel.”

Vivek is an excellent cricketer too and is the member of the cricket team of visually challenged in the city. Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, he said he studies for three hours daily. His best friend Ankit is also blind and had obtained first position in Class XII examination among the blind candidates.

Hundreds take PMET
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, June 29
Hundreds of students aspiring to be doctors appeared for the PMET conducted by Baba Farid University today at eight centres of Punjab Agricultural University here. Hundreds of anxious parents from all over Punjab were waiting eagerly for their wards to come out of the examination halls.

Some of the irate parents said,” Why cannot one examination be conducted? Every time we have to spend Rs 3,000 on an examination. The prospectus and the fee of the entrance test alone cost Rs 1,500 and the travel, boarding and lodging expenses amount to Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000. Moreover, we have to get extra coaching to our children. Again we have to spend money on counselling. We are tired of the whole long-drawn process and will welcome any steps that will simplify admission to medical and engineering colleges.” The students felt that the paper was satisfactory.
