BATALA
TRANSFERRED: Dr Jagjit Singh Sadhana has taken over as the Senior Medical Officer of the local Civil Hospital in place of Dr Inder Jit Singh, who has been transferred to the Primary Health Centre, Dhianpur, on the Batala - Dera Baba Nanak road. Earlier, Dr Sidhana was working as the Senior Medical Officer at the Primary Health Centre at Bhullar.

TARN TARAN
RECOVERED: The Khem-karan police on Sunday recovered two cartridges and a double-barrelled gun from the possession of Kulbir Singh, a resident of Dohal Kona village. A case under the Arms Act has been registered against the accused.

DRUGS RECOVERED: The Patti police on Sunday recovered 1,100 intoxicant injections from the possession of Manoj Kumar, a resident of Patti along with 5,800 kg of narcotic powder and 10 bottles of liquor. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.

OFFICE-BEARERS: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Employees’ Federation of the Punjab State Electricity Board: president—Mr Gurinder Singh; senior vice-president — Bhupinder Kumar; vice-president—Mr Harpal Singh; General Secretary — Mr Manjit Singh and Treasurer — Mr Iqbal Singh Dhillon.

CHANDIGARH

DHARNA: Members of the General Categories Welfare Federation, Punjab, will stage a dharna at the Matka chowk, Sector 17, on Monday in support of their long-pending demands. These will continue till June 27. This was stated by the president of the federation, Mr Shyam Lal Sharma, in a press note issued here on Sunday.

AMBALA
MEETING HELD: A meeting of the All-India Oriental Insurance Employees Union was held here on Sunday. The meeting was presided over by union president P.N. Sharma. Besides the union executive, representatives of different units from Punjab and Haryana were also present at the meeting. It was decided to hold a seminar on June 27 at the Kumari Rukmani Devi Memorial Hall on changing circumstances. The chief guest would be Union Minister of State Anand Rao Adsool and former Governor of Himachal Pradesh Suraj Bhan would preside.

FATEHABAD
ARRESTED: The police on Saturday arrested two drug traffickers and recovered 43 kg of poppy husk from them. The SP, Mr K.K. Rao, said 10 kg of poppy husk was recovered from Bal Lal Bishnoi, a resident of Pirthala, near Tohana. In another incident, the police nabbed Jagdish of Sherpura from Fatehabad bus stand with 33 kg of poppy husk. The police has booked them under the NDPS Act.

KANGRA
CONDOLENCE MEETING: The Himachal Pradesh Medical Officers Association on Sunday held a condolence meeting to pay homage to Dr N.K. Behal, Senior Dental Surgeon of the local sub-divisional hospital, who died in Solan district last week. Two minutes’ silence was observed on the occasion.

NURPUR
TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS: The Railway and Traffic police, a wing of the Himachal Pradesh Police in a special drive to check the violation of the Motor Vehicle Act on Saturday, challaned owners of 66 vehicles in Nurpur and Jawali sub-divisions. A sum of Rs 40,000 was collected as fine from the defaulters.
