Temperatures soar in plains, rains lash HP

Chandigarh, June 11
Notwithstanding yesterday’s dust storms and sharp rains in pockets of north-west region, Hisar (45°C) again sizzled today, while mercury in Patiala soared to 42.7°C.

The ongoining heatwave has already claimed 59 lives in Haryana and Punjab since last month. Dust haze reappeared at many a place, reducing visibility.

Meanwhile, several places in Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla and catchment areas of the Sutlej and Beas rivers, reported light to moderate rains in the past 24 hours, ending at 8.30 a.m. today. This brought the much-needed respite to the people from high temperatures.

Kahu (22.8 mm), Sundernagar (12.3 mm), Nadaun (10.5 mm), Barthin (8.5 mm), Nangal Dam (7.4 mm), Sunni (5.2 mm) Sujanpur Tira (3.8 mm), Bhuntar (3.6 mm), Pandoh (3.00 mm), Kahu (1.9 mm) and Guleri (1.5mm) were among the stations in HP reporting rains during the past 24 hours.
