Sheila exerts control with Prem Singh as DPCC chief

Ending days of speculation, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Wednesday appointed Prem Singh as president of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC). Announcing the decision, AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes said Singh was appointed after Subhash Chopra submitted his resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Youth’s body rots as cops bicker over turf

The body of a young man has been found from the fields near a tubewell in the Daula Rajpura area of Dankore. His head had been severed with a sharp-edged weapon. The deceased was reportedly involved in a love affair. The murder is suspected to be a gory sequel to it.

Former Miss Bangalore held for prostitution
New Delhi, June 11
A 21-year-old former Miss Bangalore was today arrested from a five-star hotel on prostitution charges by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police this morning. With the arrest of the model the police claimed to have unearthed a prostitution racket involving models and certain high-profile persons. The accused told the police she had come to Delhi for shooting her portfolio for submission to movie and serial producers. The police said a decoy traced her mobile phone number and struck a deal for Rs 15,000. When the decoy reached the lobby of the hotel he paid Rs 2,000 in advance in presence of a shadow witness and as she led him to the room booked by her she was arrested.

BSNL tightens noose around defaulters
Faridabad, June 11
All those, who have not been paying their telephone bills, will not be able to switch over to private telephone service providers now. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has reached an understanding with the private phone service operators who will not release any connection to defaulters or would immediately disconnect the connection granted to such customers, till they pay their outstanding bills to BSNL.

In view of the repeated complaints regarding the supply of contaminated water in certain localities, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Ashok Yadav, has directed the officials of public health department to disconnect all the water connections taken from the pipelines passing through the sewer lines or drains in Gandhi Camp and Para mohalla localities within three days.

Two drown, third commits suicide
Ghaziabad, June 11
One person, who had gone for a holy dip in the Hindon on Jaishth Dushehra day, reportedly drowned in the river. Another drowned in the Yamuna yesterday while the third person jumped into the Hindon to commit suicide.

Two killed in head-on collision
Noida, June 11
Two persons were killed and six injured in a head-on collision between Tata Sumo and Tata-407 near Chit Hore village under Dadri police station. The occupants of Tata Sumo were proceeding to Aligarh for engagement of their daughter. The injured were rushed to a Ghaziabad hospital.

A 15-year-old boy reportedly died after he was drowned in a swimming pool last night in the Punjabi Bagh Club. The deceased Ankit, resident of East Avenue Road and the son of a businessman is a member of the club and had gone for swimming at around 7 last night.

NTPC official commits suicide
Ghaziabad, June 11
A senior manager of the NTPC, Mr S. S. Rajput, put an end to his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his house in Dholana. Rajput(56), whose wife had died three months ago after fighting a battle against cancer, had been suffering from depression since then.

Theft at trader’s house in Indralok Colony 
Sonepat, June 11
Thieves are reported to have entered the house of Mr Govardhan, a trader of Sonepat grain market in Indralok Colony here last night and decamped with two coloured TV sets, a CD player, one mobile phone and Rs 8,000 from it.
