Chandigarh, Jalandhar to clash in final

Chandigarh, June 3
Chandigarh and Jalandhar teams will clash in the final of the Punjab State Inter-district Cricket Tournament for ML Markan Trophy (under-17), the semi-finals of which were played here today at two different venues, in PCA stadium, SAS Nagar, and DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8.

In the first semi-final played at SAS Nagar, Jalandhar got the better of Mohali by six wickets. Jalandhar scored 229 runs for four in their second innings in reply to Mohali’s second innings score of 228 runs. Skipper of Jalandhar Satpal hammered 142 runs followed by Gurdeep who scored 58 runs.

In the second semi-final held in here, Chandigarh players outplayed Amritsar by 10 wickets. In the second innings, Chandigarh boys Sidharth and Gurkirat played unbeaten knocks of 65 and 73 runs, respectively. Earlier, Amritsar scored 252 runs in their second innings. Amritsar had scored 157 runs in first innings, while Chandigarh players had put up a huge total of 256 runs in their first innings. Karanveer was the top wicket taker for Chandigarh who claimed eight wickets in the match.

TT selection trials

The circle sports and cultural board of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (Punjab) will conduct selection trials for to select BSNL Punjab table tennis team on June 5 at New Public School in Sector 18 here. The selected team will participate in the All-India Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Table Tennis Tournament to be held at Kolkata from July 28 to August 1. The participants will have to reach the venue at 9.30 am in sports kit.
