The co-owners of Apollo Circus, Alim and Yunus, who are absconding since the sexual exploitation of its girl employees came to light, are actually inter-state gangsters and history-sheeters. Incidentally, they are also brothers. According to the police, the two are wanted in more than 24 cases of murder, robbery, attempts to murder, threats and extortion.

Huge bungling in Appu Ghar allotment in Noida
Noida, May 28
The Gramin Vikas Manch (Rural Development Forum) has alleged a bungling of at least a few hundred crores in the allotment of land — across the road opposite Sector 18 — to a Delhi-based party for building the Appu Ghar. The Noida administration has reportedly earned only Rs 108 crore from this sale.

Drive against corruption in building department runs aground
Panipat, May 28
The campaign of local municipal council chief Sanjay Bhatia against corruption in the Building and Enforcement Branch seems to have fizzled out with Mr Bhatia locking horns with Deputy Commissioner Mulk Raj over non-issues. And in the process, the council has been left poorer by several lakhs of rupees per month.

Delhi Govt has disturbed parity of stamp duty: BJP

The BJP says the reduction of stamp duty on conveyance of sale (of property) by three per cent has “disturbed” the parity of stamp duty levied on other modes of conveyance and, therefore, amounts to giving relief to only a minuscule section of population.

Four Haryana criminals held after shootout
New Delhi, May 28
The Delhi Police have arrested four criminals of Haryana after a brief encounter and claimed to have foiled an attempt to kill a witness in a murder case. The suspects — Rajbir Rathi alias Rajesh alias Sushil, Manoj alias Vicky, Ishwar alias Ravi (all from Rohtak district) and Rajiv Saini of Hisar — were arrested from the Karampura area of West Delhi last night when they were on their way to Mehrauli to commit a crime, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Satish Golcha said.

A large number of women held a demonstration in front of the office of the SDO of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam at Butana village, about 40 km from here, yesterday in protest against the non-supply of power for the past three weeks.

Double murder in Modi Nagar
Ghaziabad
A person, with the help of his friends, allegedly killed his stepbrother and the latter’s mother-in-law in a hail of bullets today at 6 am in the Modi Nagar area. The stepbrother’s wife was critically injured. The reason behind the murderous attack is said to be a property dispute. The stepbrother killed in today’s shootout had himself murdered his stepfather some ten months ago. He came out of the jail only a month ago.

BSNL lodges police complaint against municipality contractor
Sonepat, May 28
The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited authorities at Gohana have lodged a police complaint against a contractor of Municipality Gohana, for allegedly damaging several pairs of under ground telephone lines resulting in disruption of phone services to around 400 subscribers of Gudha and Thaska and a few colonies of Gohana town.

Draw of DDA Rohini plots on June 11

The Delhi Development Authority will hold the draw of much-awaited Rohini residential plots on June 11. The DDA was not able to allot any plots for quite a few years due to the non-availability of land as no acquisition had been done during the preceding years. The process of acquisition was speeded up and now about 4,000 plots are likely to be allotted in the first batch.

Yet another encounter: Three inter-state criminals arrested

The South district police today claimed to have arrested three desperate inter-state criminals active in the national Capital and Haryana after a brief encounter. The suspects, Yogesh alias Nakki, Jagbir and Bhupender Singh were going to Jhajjar for committing crime when they were arrested.

Akal Academy: Only first divisions in CBSE class X exams
New Delhi, May 28
Navdeep Kaur of the Akal Academy in Baru Sahib in Himachal Pradesh has scored 92.8 per cent marks in class X exams held by the CBSE. Of the 60 students who took the exam, 34 scored above 80 per cent while six scored 90 per cent and above, said a press release issued in the Capital.

Based on a complaint of the Delhi Medical Council, a Delhi court has issued summons to three unqualified, unregistered medical practitioners in the Capital. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal taking cognizance of the complaint against the quacks, fixed the matter for August 7.

28 prisoners to be freed

Mr S S Nijjar, a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, inspected the district jail here yesterday and ordered the release of 28 prisoners involved in minor cases of crime.
