DDA engineer’s wife, son’s friend stabbed to death 
New Delhi, May 23
The North-West district police have launched a hunt for two unidentified youths who reportedly stabbed to death a 40-year-old wife of a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) junior engineer and an 18-year-old boy, who was a friend of the son of the deceased in Sultanpuri, North West district, early this morning.

‘Non-performing’ govt schools break 
the jinx 
New Delhi, May 23
The government schools in the Capital have finally shattered the spell of poor performance. After years of being dismissed as “non-performers,” they have recorded a pass percentage of 77.09 in the Capital, which is a jump of 5.87 per cent over last year’s 71.33 per cent in the class XII CBSE results.

Khattar’s gold links unravelled
New Delhi, May 23
The CBI today arrested Davinder Khattar, brother of the main accused in the scam, Dharamvir Khattar, who allegedly gave gold as illegal gratification to former Delhi High Court Judge Shamit Mukherjee and sacked DDA Vice-Chairman Subhash Sharma. The agency sleuths, while probing the various angles in the DDA scam, stumbled upon some fresh leads which suggested that Dharamvir Khattar used to give money to his brother for purchasing gold for allegedly bribing DDA officials and Mukherjee, sources said. 

DDA to evict societies for 
land misuse

New Delhi:
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) says it will “conclude” soon the eviction proceedings against the two societies that have Dharamvir Khattar as an office-bearer and which misused the institutional land allotted to them. The allotment of institutional land to these societies was cancelled in 1998. Another society, of which Khattar is an office-bearer, has been given 15 days’ time to hand over the possession of the premises back to the DDA.

Man who took poison  in protest dies
Meerut, May 23
Priyank Sharma, who consumed some poisonous substance on the premises of the District Magistrate’s residence on May 7 against the alleged police atrocities on him, died in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital in New Delhi. Doctors say that the poison had got mixed with the blood and the effect could not be removed even after dialysis.

Two women passengers waiting for the Karnal-bound train were reportedly robbed of cash, gold rings, wristwatches and keys in addition to two railway tickets at the railway station here last evening.

Hides of seven leopards seized
Panipat, May 23
The Samalkha police arrested two persons allegedly involved in trading in hides of wild animals here yesterday. The police also succeeded in seizing seven leopard and 18 “ud-bilav” skins from them.

The decision of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to collect payments of the telephone bills on a monthly basis has evoked sharp criticism from various sections of subscribers. The subscribers have demanded restoration of the old practice of collecting bills every two months.

Re-exams of cancelled papers from today
Bhiwani, May 23
Re-examinations will be conducted at such centres where examinations in various subjects of middle and matriculation classes, conducted during April by the Board of School Education Haryana, had been cancelled due to outside interference. The re-examinations will be conducted at such centres from May 24 to May 27.
