ONGC power into Goswami cricket final

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), last year’s runners-up, beat Collage Group by 13 runs to move into the final of the Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Khalsa College ground on Wednesday.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Club will take on Sonnet Club in the second semi-final on Friday.

India star Mohd Kaif blasted a swashbuckling 91, studded with nine boundaries off 101 balls, to guide ONGC to victory.

Put into bat, ONGC lost openers Manoj Mudgil and Gagan Khoda cheaply. But Kaif stepped in to play a remarkable knock in the company of Rizwan Shamshad and they hoisted 119 runs for the third wicket. ONGC posted 242 for 9 in 40 overs, and then dismissed Collage Group for 229 for 9 in 40 overs, with Amit Bhandari claiming four wickets for 26 runs. Mohd Kaif was adjudged the man of the match. Kaif's cameo, whose cracking knock of 91, was appreciated by the spectators.

ASPM Academy beat Harry Coaching Centre

ASPM Cricket Academy, Punjabi Bagh beat Harry Coaching Centre by four wickets in the fourth Peacock Under-13 Cricket Tournament at the Gargi College ground.

Scores: Harry Coaching Centre: 111 all out in 27 overs (Abhimanyu 44, Pulkit 28, Gotam 2 for 15, Yash 2 for 11). ASPM Academy: 112 for 6 in 22.2 overs (Navneet 49, Birjesh 28).

Hansraj Cricket Academy beat Lovely Public School by 160 runs. Scores: Hansraj Academy: 207 for 2 in 30 overs (Parnav Kumar 89, Tarun 39, Vinod 38).

Lovely Public School: 47 all out in 11.4 overs (Akshay 21, Karan Preet Singh 3 for 1).

Harry Coaching Centre beat Chetan Sharma Academy in another match.

Scores: Harry Coaching Centre: 153 all out in 28.4 overs (Govinda 50, Abhimanyu 47, Kshitij 3 for 18). Chetan Academy: 151 all out in 29.2 overs (Kshitij 48, Govinda 2 for 15, Sidharth 2 for 18).

Delhi women’s wrestling team

DDA Academy teams enter final

New Delhi, May 21
Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Academy C and D teams moved into the final of the third Ambuja Cup Five-a-Side Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday.

In the first semi-final, DDA Academy C beat Mount St. Mary’s School 7-1. Adnan (2), William (2), Humair (2) and Trilok were the goal-scorers for DDA. DDA Academy beat D beat St. Columba’s School 8-3. Bulbui scored five goals while Ankit scored a brace for DDA. Johnson (2) and Jain were the scorers for Columba’s.

In other matches, Ambuja XI defeated Media B 4-1 and Amar Jyoti beat Media A 2-1. Ranjit Thapa scored three goals for Ambuja while Om Prakash and Vikram got the goals for Media B. Madan Aggarwal and Chaman Lal scored the goals for Amar Jyoti while Vikram Thapa reduced the margin for Media A. OSR

Malhotra gets Ram Mohan Puruskar

New Delhi, May 21
All India Council of Sports (AICS) president Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra has been bestowed with the sixth Ram Mohan Puruskar by the Ram Mohan Mission, Kolkata, for his excellent services in the field of sports and social services. The other recipient of the award is Dr Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, chairman, Space Commission, and secretary, Government of India.

Prof Malhotra, a senior vice-president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), is a veteran sports administrator, and is the founder president of the Archery Association of India, as well as the Asian Archery Federation.

He is also the founder of the Commonwealth Archery Federation, and has done pioneering work in promoting modern archery in Asian countries. Prof Malhotra, a Member of Parliament from South Delhi, enjoys Cabinet rank as president of the AICS.

21 teams for Institutional Soccer League

Twenty-one teams will participate in the Delhi Soccer Association Institutional League, beginning at the Ambedkar Stadium on May 26. Holders Delhi Audit, runners-up Food Corporation of India, Employees State Insurance Corporation, Northern Railway Oriental Bank of Commerce, Zakir Hussain College, Food Corporation of India (Head Office), Urban Development Ministry and Punjab National Bank will contest in the Senior Division.

In the A Division, the contest will be held among Delhi Transport Corporation, Customs and Central Excise, Reserve Bank of India, Delhi Administration, Delhi Development Authority, IGPCL, Bank of India, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., Indian Airlines and Railway Board.

The bottom two teams of the Senior Division will be relegated to the A Division while the top two teams of A Division will move in the Senior Division. The matches will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis.

Delhi Administration will take on AIIMS in the opening match at 4 pm followed by a match between FCI and Punjab National Bank.

Turf Cup Cricket

The first Turf Youth Cup Under-15 Cricket Tournament will be held from June 5 to 20. Those who are born on 1-9-1988 or after are eligible to participate in the tournament.
