Servant clubs woman to death, kills self
Panchkula, April 30
In a bizzare incident, the wife of a Haryana Civil Service officer was clubbed to death by her servant, who later shot himself with the licenced revolver of the officer at the latter's residence in Sector 15 this evening.

The SP, Panchkula, Mr Ranbir Singh, examines the blood-stained floor of the Sector 15 residence of HCS officer Bhoop Singh Bishnoi, whose wife Sudesh Bala Bishnoi was  clubbed to death by her servant, who later shot himself on Wednesday.

Now another girl commits suicide
Chandigarh, April 30
The spate of suicides in the city continued with yet another girl reportedly committing suicide by consuming some poisonous substance. The 20-year-old Chandra, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony in Sector 26, consumed celphos late this evening when she was alone in her house.

  Vegetable vendor ends life

A 22-year-old vegetable vendor of Manimajra allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison late last night. The deceased, Chander Pal, who was rushed to the Sector 16 General Hospital, died early today.

Expensive equipment used in tubewells was reportedly stolen under mysterious circumstances from the store of the Waterworks Department in the PGI here. The equipment, weighing around five quintals, was stolen from a locked building of the Public Health Wing.

BSNL introduces new tariff plan

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a new tariff plan, which will become effective from May 1. Despite TRAI’s decision to introduce inter-connectivity user charge (ICUC) regime, BSNL will continue with the same pulse rates and monthly rental, said Mr R.C. Vaish, Principal General Manager, BSNL, Chandigarh SDCA, here today.

LPG distributors’ strike today

LPG Distributors, Chandigarh, at a meeting here today announced that it would observe a strike tomorrow and the future course of action would be decided after that. There would be no delivery of LPG cylinders tomorrow.

After holding Ranjit Bajaj — son of Punjab IAS couple Bharat and Rupan Deol Bajaj — guilty in a contempt of court case, a Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed his release on probation.

Rathore did not visit CIA Centre: cops
Patiala, April 30
Haryana Police officials today while deposing in a local court in the Ruchika Gilhotra molestation case, said former state DGP S.P.S. Rathore had never visited the Panchkula CIA Centre with regard to cases of robbery registered against Ashu Gilhotra, brother of Ruchika.

Bid on Saini’s life: 6 issued notices

Six persons, including Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, who was sentenced to death penalty for his involvement in the assassination bid on Mr Manjinder Singh Bitta, former president of the All-India Youth Congress, were today issued notice by a local court for their alleged involvement in carrying out a blast in the city to eliminate former UT SSP Sumedh Singh Saini.

Judicial remand for excise Inspector
Chandigarh, April 30
Sanauwlha Khan, an Inspector in the UT Excise and Taxation Department who had been arrested by the CBI for accepting a bribe, was today remanded in judicial custody by a local court. Khan was produced in the court of the UT Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr C.L Mohal, who remanded him in judicial custody till May 14.
