Delhi Govt warning to traders goes unheeded

The Government of NCT of Delhi’s warning seems to have had little impact with traders selling essential commodities at inflated prices. Wholesalers and retailers have jacked up the prices of fruits and vegetables, even though farmers are using alternate modes of transport to ferry their goods to the wholesale markets.

500 acres of residential land ‘missing’ in GDA records
Ghaziabad, April 20
There is no trace of 500 acres of residential land in the records of Ghaziabad Development Authority. This fact has been highlighted in the GDA blueprint.
Sources say GDA had initiated steps to trace this land eight months ago.

Only six municipal council employees for upkeep of 8,000 power points
Rohtak, April 20
l The residents of this town have been paying nearly Rs 4 lakh per month to the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) as streetlight expenses. l The Municipal Council here has been spending approximately Rs 3.50 lakh per annum to maintain power points used in streetlights.

Master drug peddler in burka unveiled
New Delhi April 20
A notorious drug peddler and blackmailer, who had duped the policemen of different states by operating in a ‘black burka,’ was nabbed last evening by the police in the Dhaula Kuan area of South-West district. His associate, identified as Abdul Wadood, a resident of Ajmer, was also arrested and 304 gm of gold, three mobile phones, a Rado watch and Rs 8,400 were recovered from their possession.

Modus operandi: Sayeed Nafees Chisti alias Nafisuddin, who was arrested in the Dhaula Kuan area of the Capital.

MCF ready to nail 1,700 encroachers
Faridabad, April 20
The Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF) has prepared a list of 1,700 individuals or owners of houses of the disputed colony of A C Nagar here against whom it is likely to file a case in the SDM’s court, alleging that they had illegally occupied about 22 acres of prime land.

Undertrial, unable to bear sight of mother in jail, commits suicide
Bhiwani, April 20
An undertrial, Rajesh of village Kasni in Jhajjar district, committed suicide by hanging himself on the jail premises yesterday. It is alleged that Rajesh could not bear the sight of his mother Murti Devi in jail; the police had arrested Murti Devi two days back. Rajesh and his father Dharmpal were already lodged in the jail as undertrials in a case registered by the Jhajjar police under Section 304 B of the Indian Penal Code.

Unemployed engineer slashes mother’s neck
Noida, April 20
An engineer, who had been disturbed for losing his job, killed his mother in Kalpura village under Rabupura police station. He severed her neck with a sharp-edged weapon. The reason? She had not given him food for three to four days. This was, however, denied by the family members.

When it comes to launching ‘special drives,’ few can match the Haryana Police. However, the end results of such drives are hardly encouraging. One of such special drives, “Operation Talaash”, launched by the police with much fanfare in October last year to flush out illegal Bangladeshis, has fizzled out.

13 fair price shops get the stick for malpractices
Sonepat, April 20
The Food and Supplies Department has suspended the supply of rationed commodities to as many as 13 fair price shops and issued show cause notices to 40 others asking them to explain as to why their supply should not be suspended and their licences should not be cancelled for indulging in irregularities and malpractices in the distribution of rationed commodities in Sonepat district.

Admn turns a blind eye to encroachments

Roads are getting narrower with each passing day in the city due to the failure of the district authorities, particularly the Sonepat Municipal Council, the PWD (B and R), and the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to check the menace of encroachment which has assumed alarming proportions.

Mayawati has unleashed political terror: Bitta 
Noida, April 20
The president of Anti-Terrorist Front, Mr M S Bitta, has accused UP Chief Minister Mayawati of having unleashed political terrorism in the state. “Acting like dictator Saddam Hussien, Mayawati has also silenced her critics by threatening them with dire consequences. Cases are being registered against those who choose to speak the truth. My Front will launch a movement against Ms Mayawati and support those victimised by her,” Mr Bitta said.

Probe ordered into flesh  trade racket in hospital

Dr H. R. Singhal, the Medical Superintendent of the local Civil Hospital, has ordered a probe into the reported case of flesh trade being carried out from the X-ray room, in which five employees have been alleged to be involved.

Executive body of Gohana Congress reconstituted
Sonepat, April 20
The executive body of the Gohana city Congress has been reconstituted by the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee. The former president of Gohana Nagarpalika, Mr Azad Singh Malik, has been appointed as the president and Shiv Lal Balmiki, as the treasurer.

Residents quarrel over colony gate
Rohtak, April 20
A number of residents of HUDA Sector I have welcomed the removal of iron gates erected at various points in the colony. However, Mr Vidya Bhushan Aghi, convenor, Ekta Pocket Sudhar Samiti, Sector I, described the removal of these gate as ‘unjustified’. In a memorandum to the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Aghi stated that the samiti had collected lakhs of rupees from the residents of Sector I to construct the iron gates for security purpose.

With the arrest of four youths, the South district police today claimed to have worked out a robbery case that was committed recently in Jangpura. The suspects were identified as Nadeem alias Sonu, Yashpal, Parag alias Bobby and Avdesh.
