Yogesh bowls Salwan School into semis

New Delhi, April 17
A fierce 5 for 24 bowling spell by Yogesh Nagar helped Salwan Boys School, Rajender Nagar record a four-wicket victory against MES Club, Patiala and entered the semi-final of the first All-India GMCA Under-14 Cricket Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Ghaziabad on Thursday. Yogesh Nagar was adjudged the man of the match.

Scores: MES Patiala: 147 all out in 39.2 overs (Jaspreet Singh 50, Vikram Bawa 31, Preet Kamal 23, Yogesh Nagar 5 for 24, Deepak Chandra 3 for 30).

Salwan Boys: 148 for 6 in 28.2 overs (Prateek Jamla 49 n o, Shobhit Kaushik 33, Surender Dahiya 27 n o, Vivesh Goel 2 for 23, Ajay Midda 2 for 24).

Salwan Boys had beaten hosts GMCA B by 94 runs on Wednesday.

Scores: Salwan Boys: 225 for 8 in 40 overs (Yogesh Nagar 49, Surender Dahiya 32, Pawan Chauhan 30, Yatish Jain 3 for 35, Rakesh Sarshwat 3 for 43).

Varun Agnish deadly

A deadly 5 for 21 bowling display by Varun Agnish enabled Standard Chartered Bank defeat Delhi Automotive by 135 runs in the Reebok Cricket Tournament.

Scores: Standard Chartered Bank: 215 for 4 in 25 overs (Amit Sharma 68, 4x9, 6x3; Vikrant Agnish 67, 4x5, 6x4; Anurag Srivastav 50, 4x5; Neeraj Mathur 1 for 33).

Delphi Automotive: 80 all out in 16 overs (Surinder 20, 4x4; Neeraj Mathur 18, 4x4; Varun Agnish 5 for 21, Anurag Srivastav 4 for 19). Anurag Srivastav was named the man of the match.

In another match, KPMG defeated ICICI Bank by 23 runs.

Satender stars in Youngsters’ victory

An outstanding all-round performance by Satender Yadav, who took two wickets for 28 runs and then scored a swashbuckling 96, off as many balls with one six and eleven boundaries, helped Youngsters Club beat Vikaspuri Coaching Centre by six wickets in the 13th All-India Om Nath Sood Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Khalsa College ground.

Satender Yadav and Jitender Gulia put on 163 runs for the fourth wicket after Youngsters struggled at 52 for 33, off 11 overs, chasing Vikaspuri’s total of 215 for 7 from 40 overs. Satender Yadav won the Pepsi man of the match award for his match-winning performance. He was presented the award by chief guest J S Rana.

Scores: Vikaspuri Coaching Centre: 215 for 7 in 40 overs (Rajiv Rana 39, Priyank Tehlan 38, Jagdev Chauhan 36, Sunil Kashyap 25, Bhupinder Yadav 22 n o, Satender Yadav 2 for 28, Jitender Solanki 2 for 51).

Top teams for Shera Pandit Soccer

Top teams of Delhi will participate in the 12th Shera Pandit Memorial Cricket Tournament, to be held at the Mohan Meakins ground, Mohan Nagar, from April 18 to May 10.

Organising secretary Radhey Shyam Sharma said K N Colts will take on Municipal Corporation of Delhi in the opening match. The tournament is being organised by Subhania Club.

Other teams in the fray are Sonnet, Gush, DSI, Mohan Meakins, Daryaganj, Delhi Police, South Delhi Colts, Pelicans, Youngsters, FCI, Young Friends, Air Sahara, Delhi Administration, Malviya Club, Madras Club and SAIL.

Dena Bank defeated Bright Club by 27 runs in a Super A Division match of the DDCA League at the Kalindi College ground. Scores: Dena Bank: 171 all out in 39.4 overs (Aditya Jain 65, Puneet Bisth 32, Nischal Gaur 3 for 44, Dinesh Kumar 2 for 36). Bright Club: 144 all out in 38.3 overs (Sanjay Bamal 57, Aditya Jain 4 for 27, Vikas Vij 3 for 19).

Indian Airlines defeated Youngsters Club by 82 runs in a Super A Division match at the Central Secretariat ground Scores: Indian Airlines: 282 for 5 in 35 overs (Manvinder Bisla 115, Ishan ganda 58, Shafiq Khan 43, Sunit Sharma 2 for 35). Youngsters: 200 for 9 in 35 overs (Dharmender Fagna 62, Jitender Solanki 49, Sonu Sharma 2 for 11, Harender Chaudhary 2 for 25). Food Corporation of India (FCI) defeated Delhi Police by seven wickets in a Super A Division match at the RSC ground. Himanshu shines for Shastri Club

An all-round display by Himanshu Mehta (4 for 27 and 90, 49b, 10x4, 3x6) steered Lal Bahadur Shastri Club to a six-wicket victory against Young Friends in a league match of the second Rajdhani Cup Cricket Tournament at the Najafgarh Sports Club ground. Himanshu was declared the man of the match.

Scores: Young Friends: 162 all out in 35 overs (Ishan Bakshi 46, Ashok Mourya 37, Himanshu Mehta 4 for 27, Sandeep Yadav 2 for 5).

Shastri Club: 163 for 4 in 27.4 overs (Himanshu Mehta 90, Saumik Chatterjee 31, Ishan Bakshi 3 for 25).

In another match, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) defeated Youngsters Club, Okhla by four wickets.

United Academy, Gyan Bharti in semis

United Delhi Cricket Academy beat Sonnet Club by six wickets to enter the semi-final of the first Dr Hedgewar Cup Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the RSKP ground. Gyan Bharti South Delhi Academy defeated Young Friends by two wickets, also to enter the semi-final.

Scores: Sonnet Club: 94 all out in 34.1 overs (Karan Rai 34, Mayank Aggarwal 30, Varun Anand 3 for 21, Deepak Sharma 2 for 17).

United Delhi Cricket Academy: 95 for 4 in 32.2 overs (Deepak Sharma 31, Kunal Nagpal 27 n o, Karan Rai 2 for 13, Mayank Aggarwal 2 for 18).

Young Friends: 163 for 8 in 40 overs (Jagirat Anand 47, Ankit Maini 37, Naman Khanna 5 for 48).

RVC Centre hosts Army Equestrian meet

Meerut, April 17
The much awaited Army Equestrian Championship (AEC 2002-2003) was inaugurated here this morning by Maj-Gen R. K. Singh, VSM, on the premises of Remount and Veterinary Corps Centre and School.

Aimed at winning gold medals and selecting aspirants for the upcoming Olympics and Asian Games the events started with a colourful march past by the participating riders and their horses holding flags of their respective units. Competitions for various events like show jumping, dressage, tent pegging were being conducted. Riders from all over India, including Bangalore, Pune, Goa, Saharanpur and from various cantonments arrived several days before the commencement of the events.

Additional Direction-General RVS, Army HQ, Maj-Gen B. S. Panwar told the NCR Tribune the RVC Centre and School here had been selected as a nodal centre for training the riders and horses for participation in the Olympics.

GHPS Hemkund earn full points

Guru Harkrishnan Public School (GHPS), Hemkund scored a thrilling 3-2 victory against GHPS Loni Road in the All-India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Thursday.

A brace of goals by Karan Singh for Hemkund was the highlight of the match.

In the second match, Bhupendra Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Moga trounced GHPS India Gate 8-0. Four goals each came in either half.

GHPS India Gate had lost to GHPS Fateh Nagar 1-2 on Wednesday.

In another match, a superb five-goal blitz by Ranjot Singh helped Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Ropar defeat Mota Singh School, Janakpuri 13-2.

Vijayakumar races to glory

C Vijayakumar of Team TVS Racing emerged victorious in the prestigious ‘Lake Cross’ Motocross Championship held at Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka, according to information available in Delhi.

The competition had 11 events, including mountain bikes, trail bikes, standard motorcycles and racing motorcycles. Vijayakumar of Team TVS participated in three categories—125cc, upto 250cc and Open Class. All the three events had 12 to 14 drivers each..

On an even field, some of the best international talent, riding on the best machines, showcased their dextrous driving skills. Vijayakumar took everyone’s breath away with his dazzling display of skilful driving. The event, organised by the Nuwara Eliya Motor Racing Club, was held at an altitude of 6400 feet above sea level, with temperatures hovering around nine degrees in the night.

Riding on a RM 125, Vijayakumar left no one in doubt about his immense driving skills. He shot into the lead in the very first race of the 125cc bikes and maintained it throughout, winning with consummate ease. His closest rival finished 50 seconds after him. He maintained his lead in the remaining two races—250cc and the Open Class.
