Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 17
As many as 263 Head Constables and constables of the Chandigarh police were transferred today.

The exercise was aimed at “well-connected” cops who had been getting “plum postings”, said a police official.

About two week ago, the SSP had transferred at least 130 Head Constables and constables, posted in the Police Control Room (PCR) unit, to police stations. The staff relieved from the respective police stations was sent to the PCR unit, the police lines and other units.

The transferred cops have now been asked to join at their new places. Failure to comply with the orders could attract disciplinary action, said a senior police official.

The exercise was aimed at giving a fair chance to those who had not worked in police stations and discouraging vested interests to be active among the uniformed force. The transfers were done under Section 14, 16(3) of the Punjab Police Rules.
