2 dengue cases in city

Ludhiana, March 27
Dengue has surfaced in Ludhiana again as two cases have been reported at S. Avtar Singh Grewal Memorial Hospital.
According to Dr Gurinder Singh Grewal, Medical Superintendent of the SAS Grewal Memorial Hospital, one of the patients is male. Both are residents of Ludhiana. They were admitted three days ago and had symptoms of high grade fever and one of them was even vomiting. Their platelets had also fallen. Now the patients were making progress.

Meanwhile, Dr S.N. Tiwari, Civil Surgeon, said no case of dengue had come to their notice.

Lakhvinder, Balwinder fastest

Lakhvinder Singh and Balwinder Kaur emerged as the fastest runners among boys and girls, respectively, at the 43rd Annual Athletics meet of Guru Nanak Dev Polytechnic here today. They came out triumphant in the 100 m sprint.

Two records were rewritten on the first day of the meet. In shot put, Ramandeep Kaur with a throw of 6.85 metres, established a new meet record while Kulbir Singh clocked 18.12 seconds overshadowing the previous record.

Mr Kirpal Singh Badungar, President, SGPC, inaugurated the two-day meet.

Results: (boys) — 1,500 m — Sohan Singh 1, Sapinder Singh 2, Sandeep Singh 3; 100 m — Lakhwinder Singh 1, Rajvir Singh 2, Tejinder Singh 3; Pole vault — Avtar Singh 1, Mandeep Singh 2, Amarinder Singh 3; Shot put- Shamsher Singh 1, Gurjeet Singh 2, Gurinder Singh 3; 110 m hurdles- Kulbir Singh 1, Lakhwinder Singh 2, Sukhdeep Singh 3; Hammer throw- Jagdeep Singh 1, Shamsher Singh 2, Harvir Singh ; Long jump- Kulbir Singh 1, Lakhwinder Singh 2, Padampreet Singh 3.

Girls — 400 m — Balvinder Kaur 1, Sandeep Kaur 2, Habinder Kaur 3; 100 m — Balvinder Kaur 1, Harpreet Kaur 2, Sandeep Kaur; 100 m hurdles — Amandeep Kaur 1, Sandeep Kaur 2, Balvinder Kaur; Shot put — Ramandeep Kaur 1, Pardeep Kaur 2, Arashdeep Kaur 3.

Cricket trials on March 30

The Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) will hold trials to select the Ludhiana U-15 team here at the Arya College for Boys ground on March 30 at 8.30 am.

According to Mr Vinod Chitkara, honorary general secretary, LDCA, the selected boys will represent Ludhiana in the forthcoming Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Championship for the Sushil Bali Trophy to be organised by the Punjab Cricket Association.

Players born on or after September 1, 1988, are eligible for the trials.

Meanwhile, the association has formed a new selection committee headed by a former Punjab Ranji captain and present chairman, Punjab Selection Committee (Senior), Mr Chaman Lal Malhotra, to select the team. Other members of the committee are Mr Lokesh Khanna, Mr Bharti Vij, Mr Arun Sharma and Mr Pawan Kumar.
