Nominations filed for DMCH governing body Ludhiana, March 21 Thirty nominations for membership of governing body, two for the president, eight for vice-presidents, four for secretary, four for joint secretary and three for treasurer were filed under the supervision of the newly-appointed returning officer, Mr M.A.Zaheer, former Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). The elections would be held on March 28, 2003. One of the senior members of managing society said that differences among the members of the managing society had arisen after the strike by the union in July last year. The managing society which got registered in 1964 used to elect the office-bearers unanimously since then. The member said, ‘‘Mr Brij Mohan Munjal, chairman, Hero group of industries, has been heading the society for the past 17 years. But at a meeting convened on January 27, 2003, in which more than 30 members were present, Mr Munjal had politely declined the post due to his other commitments.’’ The members also said that the president should always be accessible to the members, faculty and union whereas most of the time, Mr Munjal remained out of Ludhiana. For the post of president, Mr Brij Mohan Munjal and Mr Balraj Kumar have filed the nominations. The contestants for the post of vice-presidents are Mr Sunil Kant Munjal, Mr Tikshan Sood, Mr Dharamvir Bector, Mr Satish Sanwalka, Mr Balraj Kumar, Mr Jagdish Lal Behl, Mr Gian Chand Dhawan and Mr Amrit Nagpal. For the post of secretary, there are four contestants, Mr Amrit Nagpal, Mr Dharamvir Bector, Mr Jagdish Lal Behl and Mr Gian Chand Dhawan. Mr Sunil Kant Munjal, Mr Prem Gupta, Mr Raj Kumar Jain and Mr Rajesh Kumar have filed nominations for the post of joint secretary. For the post of treasurer, nominations have been filed by Mr Satish Sanwalka, Mr Prem Gupta and Mr Bipin Gupta. |

on oncology organised Ludhiana, March 21 Dr L.S.Chawla, former Vice-Chancellor and founder of Baba Farid University and presently a consultant to the Medical Council of India, was the chief guest. In his welcome address, Dr Silas Charles, Director, CMCH, a renowned oncologist, said the CMCH planned to develop a major cancer centre in the city. Addressing the delegates, Dr Sewa Singh Lagha, St Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Houston, USA, spoke about the rising incidence and magnitude of cancer in India. Other speakers included Dr Lalit Kumar, Dr J.S.Sekhon, Dr A.K.Vaid, Dr Vineet Talwar, Dr S. Verma, Dr Madhu John, Sequoia Regional Cancer Centre, California, Dr D.
