Deepak Joon bowls Sonnet to victory

A crushing 4 for 8 spell by left-arm spinner Deepak Joon helped Sonnet Club beat Subhania Club by five wickets in a DDCA Super A Division match at the Ferozeshah Kotla No 1 ground.

Scores: Subhania Club: 124 all out in 36.2 overs (Prashant Ahlawat 45, Deepak Joon 4 for 8, Gaurav Tyagi 2 for 34, Pankaj Sharma 2 for 15).

Sonnet Club: 125 for 5 in 24 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 44, Kshitij Rohtagi 26, Pankaj Sharma 21 n o, Manish Kaushik 2 for 27).

KPMG down Canon

KPMG trounced Canon by eight wickets in the Reebok Cricket Tournament. Preet Singh, who scored an unbeaten half century, was named the man of the match. Scores: Canon: 151 for 9 in 25 overs (Roy Joseph 43, 34b, 4x7; Prashant 27,4x2, 33; Jiten Chopra 3 for 26, Tapan 2 for 15).

JRA crush Reckitt

An unbeaten 105-run opening wicket partnership between Sri Ram (44 n.o) and Mohan Chouhan (56 n.o) and accurate bowling by captain D Ranganathan (2 for 10) and Krishnan (3 for 17) helped Jassal Ranganathan Associates (JRA) crush Reckitt Benkiser by ten wickets in the second Turf Corporate Cricket Challenge at the Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce ground at Pitampura. Mohan Chouhan was presented the man of the match award.

Scores: Reckitt Benkiser: 104 all out in 21.5 overs (Rajgopalan 26 n.o., Shibal Sinha 20, D Ranganathan 2 for 10, Krishnan 3 for 17).

Rajesh, Sanjeev star for External Affairs

Dashing knocks by Rajesh (61, 4x6, 6x4, 39b) and Sanjeev (42 n o, 7x4, 41b) helped Ministry of External Affairs XI defeat Sri Lankan High Commission by six wickets in a league match of the Commonwealth Cricket Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium ground. Rajesh was named the man of the match.

Scores: Sri Lankan High Commission: 152 in 34.4 overs (Romesh Weerawadana 70, 6x4, 95b; Dilhan Basnayake 28, 1x6, 3x4, 17b; Manjeet 3 for 26, K S Bhardwaj 3 for 33, Vinod 2 for 36).

G E Capital beat Xansa

G E Capital beat Xansa Group by seven wickets in the 10th Teri Cup Cricket League at the Teri Oval. Off-spinner

Joginder Singh, who claimed five wickets for 22 runs, and then slammed 19 runs, studded with three boundaries, was named the man of the match.

LG edge past Microsoft

L G defeated Microsoft by two wickets in the Brandmen-11 Cricket Cup Tournament. Sixteen teams are taking part in the tournament. The teams have been divided into four pools of four teams each.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

Scores: Microsoft: 178 in 25 overs (Naval Khosla 44, S N Bhaduri 37, Richard Lobo 2 for 20 in 5 overs).

LG: 179 for 8 in 24.4 overs (Mohd Rafi 66, Praveen 31, Gautam 2 for 25 in 5 overs). Mohd Rafi was named the man of the match.

Primus Business Ltd defeated Group IV by four wickets.

Scores: Group IV: 145 for 8 in 25 overs (Rajkumar 50, Rajesh 29).

Primus Business Ltd.: 147 for 6 in 19 overs (Arun Khanna 60, Harinder 22, Rohit 3 for 31 in 5 overs). Rajkumar was named the man of the match.

Telugu School celebrates sports day

New Delhi, February 26
Colourful physical training display, fancy dress competition and cultural activities were the highlights of the Annual Sports Day celebrated by the Telugu Primary School and Telugu Middle School, Sector 2, R K Puram, at the school premises.

Headmistress of the Middle School Sarada Rao submitted a report on the activities of the Ecoclub. President of the Telugu School Society B P Rao inaugurated the Eco exhibition, which displayed various products prepared by the students from waste material, with great skill.

Local MLA Ashok Singh was the chief guest of the function. Mr B P Rao, vice-president and chairman of the school managing committee NVL Nagaraju, secretary U Viswanadham, joint secretary Dr Gowrisankara Rao, treasurer Suryanarayana, Gh. Muralidhr, Sridhar, G V Ramana, Parent Teacher Association secretary Madhusudana Rao and headmistress of the primary and middle school Ratnakumari and Sarada Rao respectively, were also present.

Mr Viswanadham, in his report, stressed the need to upgrade the school to higher secondary level, with the requisite facilities.

Rekha, Kusum shine at Hindu Girls College meet

Sonepat, February 26
Rekha and Kusum, students of BA (IInd year), were adjudged the ‘Best Athlete’ and ‘Sprint Queen’ respectively at the two-day annual athletic meet of the local Hindu Girls College, which concluded on Tuesday.

The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Balwan Singh, distributed the prizes among the winners. Interestingly, three students, Rekha (BA IInd year), Savita (BA IIIrd year) and Pinki (BA Ist year) had bagged 11 point each in different events. The final decision for the ‘Best Athlete’ was made on the basis of the `Matka’ race, which was won by Rekha. Kusum won the 100 mt sprint race.
