Riot victims seek CBI probe New Delhi, December 25 The protesters, who got together under the Widows Jatha were seeking justice for the atrocity that left more than 2000 persons dead. A demand for death penalty for the perpetrators of the violence against the community was also sought. The jatha pointed out that they would seek international justice if the country’s courts did not pay heed to their demands. President of the Jatha, Ms Darshan Kaur said the community had been scarred and it would keep seeking justice. She added that she alone had lost more than 12 members of her family in the carnage and wanted the accused to be hanged till death for the crime. The protesters, including members of the All-India Shiromani Akali Dal (Babbar) held a demonstration here and burnt the effigies of Sajjan Kumar and former Union Ministers H.K.L. Bhagat and Mr Jagdish Tytler. The Delhi police was also slammed for not carrying out their duty. The protesters alleged that the police had done a shoddy job, which resulted in the accused being acquitted. SAD (Babbar) President Gurcharan Singh Babbar alleged that the Delhi police were involved in the carnage, reason why they could not do justice to the case. He added that it was the duty of the state to provide evidence for the massacre and that it was a failure on the part of the Central government that even after 18 years not a single arrest had been made in the case. Mr Babbar also pointed out that the massacre was not a riot, as it was made out to be, instead it was a well-planned genocide by the Congress. |
