Varied art forms by two artists
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, December 25
The realistic sculpture of a sleeping labourer titled “At the end of the day” at the entrance of the Hall of Nehru Sidhant Kendra rivets the attention of the visitor. An art exhibition comprising sculptures, graphics and paintings by two local artists, Parveen Kumar and Jaswinder Singh Mehndipur was inaugurated by Mr S.R. Kaler, Deputy Director , Local Bodies, here today. The exhibition will continue till December 29.

Jaswinder , a graduate in Fine Arts, has shown his skill in creating sculptures, the notable ones being Buddha’s spirit in soul and an expecting mother praying for her unborn child.

His mural, “Freedom of Mind,” and a series of “beggars” sculptures are also worth seeing.

Distorted figures run through the paintings of Parveen Kumar. Parveen is afflicted with polio and is physically challenged. A postgraduate in Fine Arts, Parveen has brought out the anguish of women in a realistic manner.

His paintings Roots shows his vivid imagination as it portrays how roots can take the form of birds. snakes and animals.

His graphic “The Black Sun” won him an award at IFACS state level function earlier this year.

Generally the leit-motif of his paintings is the underlying pain and suffering, the bright colours used by him notwithstanding. His dancing forms do not reflect pleasure, but pain. Mr Swaran Savi, a city-based painter, said the efforts of the artists were commendable and both had tried to be original.
