Pvt parties to sink tubewells in Mohali SAS Nagar, December 21 The estimated cost of the tubewells in the two residential areas is more than Rs 14 lakh and that in the Industrial Area, a little less than Rs 16 lakh. The time limit given by the council for completing the work is four months. Three more tubewells in Phases I, II and IV are to be sunk later. It is learnt that the council had earlier invited tenders for sinking three tubewells but only two parties had responded to the invitation. Under the rules, a minimum of three parties should give quotations and only then the work gets allotted. Earlier, the PWSSB used to sink tubewells for the council. The board had sunk tubewells in Phases IIIA, V, VII (two tubewells) and IX. According to an official estimate, each of the four tubewells were to give a water discharge of 15,000 gallons per hour. The one in Phase I X was to give a discharge of 10,000 gallons. However, the Executive Engineer of the PWSSB, Ropar, informed the council in a letter dated January 9 that the water discharge without sand came to 5,500, 7,500,6,000,7,500 and 10,000 gallons per hour in the case of tubewells in Phase IIIA, V, VII and IX, respectively. The discharge was far below the estimated figures except in the case of the Phase IX tubewell. The Executive Engineer had stated that the discharge was inadequate as the subsoil strata in Phases I to VII was not proper. Mr Kulwant Singh, council president, said today that the board had taken between 18 months and two years to sink tubewells. Besides, the water discharge was not as estimated. The council, therefore, decided to get tubewells sunk from private parties. |
