70 rescued from highrise blaze
Mumbai, December 17
A fire broke out today on the 11th floor of the 16-storey Mittal Court building, located near Vidhan Bhavan in the business district of south Mumbai. At least four persons of the 70 rescued from the C-wing of the building were admitted to nearby hospitals after they complained of breathlessness. The fire, apparently triggered by a short circuit, was put out after two hours and a half. PTI

Amethi renamed
Lucknow, December 17
Brushing aside opposition from the Congress and reservations from a section of the BJP, the Uttar Pradesh Government today decided to rename Amethi as Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Nagar, according it a district status. The state Cabinet, which met here, gave its nod to the proposal. PTI
