Dena Bank down Malviya in M S Trophy

Pradeep Gupta’s deadly bowling of 5 for 29 and Vishal Sharma’s debonair batting helped Dena Bank beat Malviya Club by six wickets and enter the quarter-final of the seventh M S Trophy Triveni Devi Srivastava Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Mohan Meakins ground, Mohan Nagar.

Pradeep Gupta was presented the Mishra Man of the Match award.

Put into bat, Malviya Club scored 129 all out in 35.1 overs with Sunil Joshi and Deepak Anand top-scoring.

Pradeep Gupta, Kartar Nath and Suresh Batra produced deadly bowling spells for Dena Bank to dismiss Malviya for a cheap total.

In reply, Dena Bank raced to 133 for 4 wickets in 31 overs.

Scores: Malviya Club: 129 all out in 35.1 overs (Sunil Joshi 36, Deepak Anand 29, Pradeep Gupta 5 for 29, Kartar Nath 2 for 26, Suresh Batra 2 for 35).

New cricket academy

A new cricket academy-Bharat National Cricket Academy—was inaugurated by former India player Surender Khanna at Ram Vihar, Karkardooma. Mr Kanwaljeet Singh Khungar said prominent coaches will impart training at the academy.

Eventus Cup Cricket

Delphi Auto defeated the Supreme Court Bar Association by seven wickets in a league match of the second Eventus Cup Cricket Tournament at Harbaksh Singh Stadium.

Scores: Supreme Court: 92 all out in 15 overs (Yasobant Das 29, Amit Chadha 3 for 10, Rajeev Kumar 4 for 9).

Malviya Cricket Club in semis

Malviya Cricket Club, Delhi, entered the semi-final of the Hong Kong 1st International Cricket Sixes Tournament beating Hong Kong Cricket Club by 24 runs, played at the Hong Kong Cricket ground, Wanchai, Hong Kong.

Scores: Malviya Club: 86 for 4 (T Bhandari 22, Ashu Babbar 20, Ravi Kant 18, Gurmeet 26, Williams 2 for 26, Ray Muller 2 for 30).

Hong Kong Cricket Club: 62 (G Jones 27, Bob Tew 24, Gurvinder 2 for 19, M Vadera 2 for 18, Harminder 2 for 20).

Tata Steel Golf from Dec 4

The inaugural Tata Steel Open Golf Tournament, with Rs 10 lakh as prize money, will be held at Jamshedpur from December 4 to 8. The title winner will pocket Rs 1.62 lakh as prize money.

The tournament will be played at two different courses—the Beldih Club and the Golmuri Club—making it the most unique event on the Indian Golf Tour. Both the nine-hole courses are patronised by the Tata Group. .

Half the field will play on one course on the opening day and the other course on day two. After the mid-day cut is applied, players will complete nine holes on one course and will then be transferred to the next course, which is approximately 5 km away.

Amit Sharma stars in Phadkar Cricket

A dashing knock of 26, which contained two boundaries, by Amit Sharma was the highlight of Standard Chartered Bank’s 62-run victory against Delphi India in the 6th D. G. Phadkar Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Central Secretariat ground. Amit Sharma was adjudged the man of the match.

Scores: Standard Chartered Bank: 134 all out in 25 overs (Rahul Johri 35, 4x4; Amit Sharma 26, 2x4; Abraham Joseph 3 for 20). Delphi India: 72 all out in 18.4 overs (Sarvjeet 13, Jai Prakash 3 for 9, Amit Sharma 3 for 23, Varun Agnish 2 for 23). In another match, HDFC Bank beat Hero Honda by 64 runs.

Scores: HDFC Bank: 190 for 5 in 25 overs (Harsh Gupta 50, 7x4; Muskan Singh 42, 4x4; Deepak 40, 3x4; Khazan Singh 2 for 23).

Haryana to host National Volleyball

New Delhi, November 19
Haryana Olympic Association president Abhay Singh Chautala, who is also the vice-president of the Indian Olympic Association, said on Tuesday that the National Volleyball Championships for men and women, to be held in Chautala village of Sirsa district (Haryana) from November 24 to December 1 will be of “Asiad standard”. He said it was for the first time that a National Volleyball Championship would be held in a village. The Youth Club of Chautala had successfully organised the National Sub-Junior Volleyball Championship in 1991. Chautala village boasts of two international volleyball players and 20 national-level players.

Mr Abhay Singh Chautala informed that around 51 teams would participate in the national championships—27 in the men’s section and 24 in the women’s section. He said these teams will be provided Asiad-level facilities. At least 1,0000 players are expected to turn up for the National Championships, which would be played on a league basis. Six courts, with flood-lighting facilities, are being readied for the championships.

The championships will be inaugurated by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Vikram Verma. Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala will preside over the opening ceremony.

RVC annex Cariappa Cup

Remount and Veterinary College (RVC) beat Bodyguards by seven goals to six and a half to annex the Field Marshal Cariappa Cup (two-goal) Polo Tournament at the Jaipur Polo Ground. In a nail-biting final, RVC conceded one and a half goal to Bodyguards on handicap and scored three goals while Lt Ravi Rathore scored a goal for Bodyguards in the first chukker. In the second chukker, both the teams scored a goal each. In the third chukker, RVC scored one goal while Bodyguards drew a blank. In the last chukker, RVC hit home two goals while Bodyguards struck thrice. Major Manoj Dewan scored four goals, Major B. S. Lakra two goals and Dfr Bhawani one goal for RVC. S Bhuyan (two), Major Bhanu Pratap Singh, Lt Ravi Rathore and Jagat Singh scored the goals for Bodyguards. Wednesday’s matches in Pratap Singh Cup: Zara vs Aravali Polo (1 p m); Army vs Sahgal Stud/Royal Kashmir (2.30 pm)-Jaipur Polo ground.

Gautam Sharma helps Syndicate Bank win

Gautam SharmaGautam Sharma played a dashing all-round game to help Syndicate Bank beat Indo Club by five wickets in a B Division match of the DDCA League at the Kotla No 2 ground. The Bankmen collected eight points.

Gautam Sharma claimed three wickets for 33 runs to dismiss Indo Club for 172 after they won the toss and opted to bat. And then he hit an unbeaten 91, studded with two sixes and 14 boundaries, to guide Syndicate Bank to 175 for five wickets in 31 overs to enable them to post an easy victory.

Scores: Indo Club: 172 all out 38 overs (Parul 36, Rajiv 31, Gautam Sharma 3 for 33, Sanjay Gupta 2 for 39, Arun Kanojia 2 for 9).

Syndicate Bank: 175 for 5 wickets in 31 overs (Gautam Sharma 91 no, 2x6, 14x4; Vikas Kaushal 30 no, Rahul 4 for 49).
