Vizag team lift PHD-GPI bridge title

New Delhi, November 13
C V Rao’s team from Vizag, comprising Badal Das, Srinath Sarkar, Pranab Pradhan, Swarnender Banerjee and Sunil Mukherjee, clinched the Rai Bahadur G M Modi Centennial Trophy, in an exciting finish. Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi gave away the prizes.

The Vizag team defeated Formidables Delhi by 22 imp, and collected the top prize of Rs 1.25 lakh. Formidables Delhi, comprising Kiran Nadar, Santosh Gupta, K R Venkataraman, Rajeshwar Tiwari, Sunil Choksi and B Satyanarayan received a cash prize of Rs 75000 for finishing second.

The losing semi-finalists—Well Knit, Chennai conceded the match to Formidables by 63 imp and Lawrence Club, Kolkata defeated C R Rao’s team by 9 imp—collected Rs 40,000 each.

The losing quarter-finalists—Bimal’s Team, Kolkata, Agsar Paints, Chennai, Pankaj Mehta, Moradabad and Aligarh Blues—received Rs 20,000 each.

The all-woman team of Ace of Base from Mumbai, comprising Sheelu Thandani, Leena Mayadas, Hema Deora and Promial Shivdasani, won a prize money of Rs 30,000.

Tarun Sharma hits ton for Modern School

A strokeful century by Tarun Sharma (103, 10x4, 4x6) and deadly bowling by Ankit Lamba (5 for 67) and Manan Sharma (4 for 28) helped Modern School, Barakhamba Road beat Cambridge Foundation School, Rajouri Garden, by an innings and 20 runs and entered the semi-final of the sixth Inter-School Under-17 Cricket Tournament at Modern School.

Scores: Cambridge Foundation School (first innings) : 188 all out in 58.3 overs (Jitesh Khanna 88, Gaurav Mathur 42, Ankit Lamba 5 for 67, Manan Sharma 4 for 28). Second innings: 142 all out in 38.1 overs (Jitesh Khanna 67, Manan Sharma 2 for 6, Manik Babbar 2 for 30, Tarun Sharma 2 for 23).

Modern School (first innings): 350 all out in 58.4 overs (Tarun Sharma 103, Manik Babar 58, Aditya Jain 42, Surya Azad 37, Herman Henry 3 for 90, Sahil Khan 2 for 87).

Jayaprasad hits ton

A hurricane century by P V Jayaprasad helped Teri beat Lucent Technologies by 112 runs in the sixth D G Phadkar Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval in Gurgaon. Scores: Teri: 256 for 3 in 25 overs (P V Jayaprasad 148, 16x4, 5x6, 79b; K P Eashwar 41, 6x4; Venkat Sundaram 31, 2x4; Abhay 2 for 52). Lucent Technologies: 144 all out in 24.4 overs (Soumendra Kar 59, 4x4, 3x6; Karan 51, 6x4; Sajith Kumar 2 for 6, K P Eashwar 2 for 10, Dharmender Rawat 2 for 17).

Eventus Cup Cricket

NDTV defeated Aviva Life Insurance by three wickets with 11 deliveries to spare in a league match of the second Eventus Cup Cricket Tournament. Scores: Aviva Life Insurance: 169 for 9 in 25 overs (Puneet Dayal 63, 4x6, Sameer Bansal 27, Jatin Bhutani 2 for 43). Delhi junior golfers win their spurs

New Delhi, November 13
Three budding junior golfers of Delhi—Aditya Singh, Karan Vasudeva and Karan Talwarr—have been creating waves in various tournaments in the country.

These three players are part of the five golfers selected by the Indian Golf Union and Royal Sporting House for promoting golf in the country. The other two players are Jaskirat Singh Dhullet from Patiala and Ranjit Singh from Kolkata.

Fifteen-year-old Aditya Singh, who figures in the Limca Book of Records as the youngest golf player, finished second in the recently-held Jaypee Greens Tournament and fourth in the Mayor DLF Tournament.

Karan Vasudeva, also 15 years old, bagged the Mayor DLF Tournament and stood second in the Classic Golf Resort tournament. Seventeen-year-old Karan Talwar bagged the Classic Golf Resort Tournament and stood sixth in the Jaypee Greens Tournament. Sixteen-year-old Jaskirat Singh Dullet has won all the major tournaments held this year, including the ACM Mehra Junior Tournament, Jaypee Greens Tournament, Northern India Tournament and Chandigarh Junior Tournament.

Ranjit Singh, the 17-year-old from Kolkata, stood second in the Mayor Tournament, Chandigarh tournament and won the Eastern India Tournament.

Goswami Ganesh Dutt Club enter final

Goswami Ganesh Dutt Cricket Club of Delhi defeated Cricketers Club, Kanpur by nine runs in a nail-biting finish to storm into the final of the Maharaja Tej Singh Memorial All-India Cricket Tournament at the Christian College ground, Mainpuri (Uttar Pradesh).

Goswami Club skipper Surinder Dayma won the toss and elected to bat first. They made 211 for nine wickets in 40 overs. The Kanpur Club, in reply, were all out for 202 in 39 overs.

In the quarter-final, Goswami Club had beaten Sports Hostel, Lucknow by three wickets.

Sambhy shines

A brilliant all-round performance by G S Sambhy (52, 7x4, 1x6; 3 for 21) and a rapid-fire knock of 42, with six fours, by Mahesh Chand helped the Ministry of Urban Development beat the icar by 80 runs and entered the quarter-final of the Inter-Ministry Cricket Tournament at the Vinay Marg ground.

Scores: Urban Development Ministry: 161 for 5 in 25 overs (G S Sambhy 52, Mahesh 42, Vijender 40, Vijay Kumar 3 for 33, Harpal 2 for 30).

ICAR: 81 all out in 19.2 overs (Ajay Gotam 33, G S Sambhy 3 for 21, Manjeet 3 for 21, Krishan 3 for 18).
