In a move that will change the way property is sold in the city, the Chandigarh Administration has notified that rented buildings and lands with monthly rent exceeding Rs 1,500 will not come under the ambit of the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act, 1949.

HUDA resents dismantling of spur by PWD
Panchkula, November 7
The Haryana Urban Development Authority has resented the dismantling of protection works on the Ghaggar by the State Public Works Department (Bridges and Roads). A spur (an elongated structure built by using concrete-cement blocks, wire crates and the river-bed material on river banks to prevent floods) built by HUDA upstream of the Ghaggar, near the New Ghaggar Bridge, has been partially dismantled by a PWD contractor.

Watchman’s body found in gutter
SAS Nagar, November 7
The badly decomposed body of Chavi Lal Mandal, a 50-year-old watchman working in Sector 69, has been found by the police from a gutter near the house under construction where he was working. Chavi Lal had been missing from the place for the past one week.

Burail seizures: outside agency likely to probe
Chandigarh, November 7
An outside agency is likely to be called in to probe the case of recent seizures in the Burail jail. On November 3, a cellphone, a sharp-edged weapon, a rope and Rs 44,000 had been seized from the barracks of three of the accused in the Beant Singh assassination case.

In the first match of 19th N.K. Duggal Memorial Chandigarh State Senior and Junior Billiards and Snooker Championships, Ashu Gupta beat Puneet Sharma 3-2. Leading by 2-0, Ashu Gupta was not able to concentrate in the next two frames which he lost. But in the deciding frame, Ashu bounced back and showing good potting and excellent cue ball control, he pocketed the final game and the match.
