Pandara Road school enter semi-final

Government Senior Secondary School, Pandara Road scored a narrow 2-1 victory against Boys Sports Coy., BRC Danapur and qualified for the semi-final of the 31st Nehru Junior Boys Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Tuesday.

After a goalless first half, Rajender Yadav opened the account for Pandara Road with a field goal in the 50th minute. Mandeep Antil scored their second goal 13 minutes later. Anmol Kindo pulled off the consolation goal for Danapur, when he converted a penalty corner, in the 68th minute.

St. Soldier Divine Public School, Jalandhar trounced NCC, Bangalore 5-1 after leading by 2-0 at half time, to qualify for the semi-final. Dilbagh Singh scored the first goal while Amit Bhargav struck home the second goal, converting a penalty corner, for the Jalandhar school. In the second half, Varinder Kumar converted a penalty stroke to make it 3-0 while Amit Bhargav got the fourth goal to complete his brace. Sheeyanna A B then scored a goal for the Bangalore team before Sanjay Bir rounded off the tally for Jalandhar 5-1. Birsamunda Vidyapitha, Rourkela crushed NCC, Ropar (Punjab) 14-0, with seven goals coming in the first half.

Sandeep Kullu (2), Rajib Kujur (2), Bruno H Lugun, Ajit Kerketta (2), Prasant Tirkey (2), Ajit Majhi (3), Binod Pradhan and Santosh Soreng were the goal-scorers.

Wednesday's fixtures: NCC, Ropar vs Shivalik School, Chandigarh (3.30 p.m)--Shivaji Stadium.

IAF ground Raisina Sporting

New Delhi, October 29
Indian Air Force, Palam grounded Raisina Sporting 1-0 in an A Division Super League match of the Delhi Soccer Association-SAIl Open Clubs Football League Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium in the Capital on Tuesday.

After the match, both the teams lodged protests against each other. Raisina alleged that Air Force fielded Palani, wearing jersey No 6, who had received two yellow cards in the previous match, which made him ineligible to play in this match. But Air Force alleged that Raisina fielded an outsider, Dharmender Kharola, who was with the club on "loan", without completing registration formalities.

The airmen's match-winner was slotted home by inside-right Kalyan Pal in the 46th minute.

Bangadarshan will meet Panchkuian in the last match of the B Division league on Wednesday at 1 p.m at the Ambedkar Stadium.

Bal Bhavan School win Volleyball title

Bal Bhavan Public School, Mayur Vihar II defeated Meera Model School, Janakpuri 22-25, 25-16, 25-11, 23-25, 15-11 in the CBSE Delhi Cluster X Volleyball Tournament. In the semi-final match, Bal Bhavan defeated Hill Grove Public School, Safdarjung 28-26,25-19, 25-16. In the earlier rounds, Bal Bharti had beaten CRPF School, Rohini 25-19,25-16 and Modern School, Barakhamba Road 25-18, 25-12.

Teri defeat Hudco

Hosts Teri beat Hudco by 63 runs in the sixth D G Phadkar Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval. Mahesh of Teri, who scored 47 runs, was adjudged the man of the match. Scores: Teri: 157 all out in 24.1 overs (Mahesh 47, 6x4,41b; Dharmender Rawat 20, Ramesh Negi 3 for 25). Hudco: 94 all out in 19.2 overs (Shashi Bhushan 27, 5x4; P V Jayaprasad 3 for 20, K P Eashwar 3 for 8, Venkatsundaram 2 for 7).

Dhampur beat Triburg

Fine batting displays by Amit Raj (98, 8x4, 6x6), Salem (44, 6x4, 1x6) and deadly bowling by Aftab Massih (3 for 9) helped Dhampur Sugar Mills beat Triburg Sport Wears by 63 runs in the Dhampur Cup Cricket Tournament at the Gargi College ground. Amit Raj was adjudged the man of the match.

Scores: Dhampur Sugar Mills: 203 for 4 in 20 overs (Amit Raj 98, Saleem 44, Atul 3 for 41). Triburg: 140 for 8 in 20 overs (Rohit 33, Nitin 30, Rawesh 28, Aftab Massih 3 for 9, Sourav 2 for 21).

Ministry Cricket

Air Force Headquarters beat Ministry of Tourism by 116 runs in the Inter-Ministry Cricket Tournament played at the Vinay Marg ground.

Scores: Air Force Headquarters: 188 for 5 in 25 overs (S.K Goutham 56, Subhas 34, Jetender Badola 22, Sunil 2 for 39). Ministry of Tourism: 72 all out in 21.4 overs (Arvind 34, Jetender Badola 5 for 10, Mohinder 2 for 8).

Varun, Ashish move up in TT

Varun Anand of Springdales and Ashish Mehta of Modern School moved into the third round of the boys singles in the Action Shoes-sponsored 13th Surjit Kaur Memorial All-India Prize Money Table Tennis Tournament at the Talkatora indoor stadium in the Capital. Varun beat Arjun Berry 11-7,11-9, 11-4 while Ashish Mehtra downed Aditya Pawa 11-6,11-7,11-8.

The tournament was inaugurated by vice-chairman of Action Shoes, Mr Mohinder Gupta. Delhi Table Tennis Association organising secretary Hukam Singh said the tournament has received tremendous response from the players. Kunal Kathuria of Hansraj Model School and Sajal Khandelwal entered semi-finals in the kids (under-10) section. Others to qualify for the semi-finals were top seed Sarthak Gandhi and Tina Khurana. In the cadet boys second round, Dipesh Teckchandani outplayed Mohit Chugh in three straight games 11-5, 11-5, 11-8. Aditya Jain overwhelmed Himesh Bassi 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 10-12 and 11-8.

Ashok Lamba stars for Pioneer Club

An electrifying all-round performance by Ashok Lamba, who scored 62 runs and claimed four wickets for 38 runs, helped Pioneer Club beat Maulana Azad Cricket Club by 50 runs in the opening match of the DDCA League at the Kotla II ground.

Former Test opener and DDCA vice-president Chetan Chauhan and DDCA joint-secretary (club) Dr S S Sareen jointly inaugurated the tournament.

Delhi Ranji Trophy coach Yashpal Sharma and DDCA sports officer Himmat Saini and several officials of the DDCA were present to witness the opening match.

Scores: Pioneer Club: 292 for 7 in 40 overs (Ashok Lamba 62, Umed Sharma 59, Ashu Sharma 57, Sunil Sethi 27, Rashid 2 for 34, Naved 2 for 48, Rehman 2 for 40, Rafiq 1 for 53).

HDFC Bank win

Deadly bowling of 5 for 9 by medium-pacer Virender Bhog and 3 for 21 by Girish Sharma helped HDFC Bank defeat New Holland Tractor by nine wickets in the Turf Sports Management Cricket Tournament at the Venkateshwara College ground. Virender received the man of the match award.
