300 doctors attend CME

Over 300 doctors attended a CME at the Bassi Hospital on Saturday. Dr Vyom Bhargava, consultant neurosurgeon at the hospital, delivered a lecture on ‘Minimal invasive neurosurgery’ and stressed the use of this technique on all needy patients.

Dr Rajesh Kaura, consultant surgeon, briefed the audience on the recent trends in surgery. The delegates were educated on prevention of renal failure by Dr J.S. Sandhu.

The CME was inaugurated by Mr S.K. Sharma, MC Commissioner. He said the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation was the first in the north that had started the process of safe disposal of biomedical waste and promised to provide potable water to the residents.

Dr Naresh Bassi said a free surgical and eye check-up camp was also held at the hospital yesterday. Mr Nahar Singh Gill, chief guest, said such camps should be organised frequently so as to help the poor. He said more than 1,400 patients were examined at the camp by 10 specialists. Out of these, 190 patients were registered for the surgery, he said.

Ludhiana rural games begin

Raikot girls and Machhiwara boys sprang surprise as they outplayed hosts Ludhiana in volleyball in the Ludhiana District Inter-Block Rural Games for Boys and Girls (u-16) which began at Guru Nanak Stadium here today. Raikot girls drubbed Ludhiana 25-9, 25-4 and 25-10 while Ludhiana boys team went down fighting against Machhiwara 11-25, 17-25 and 18-25.

Earlier, Mr H.S. Sidhu, SSP, Ludhiana, inaugurated the two-day meet during which competition in four disciplines- volleyball, football, athletics and kabaddi will be organised.

Results: Volleyball ( boys) — Raikot b Dehlon 25-23, 25-17 and 25-22; Machhiwara b Ludhiana II 25-11, 25-17 and 25-18; Doraha b Sidhwan Bet 25-17, 25-1 and 25 18;

girls — Raikot b Ludhiana I 25-9, 25-4 and 25-10.

Football (boys) — Ludhiana b Jagraon 3-1; Pakhowal b Doraha 4-0; and Machhiwara b Raikot 3-1.

Kabaddi (boys) — Samrala b Ludhiana I 35-21; Doraha b Khanna 52-24.

Athletics (boys) — long jump Kamalpreet Singh of Raikot 1, Hardev Singh of Ludhiana I, 2; and Gurjodh Singh of Ludhiana II, 3.

Basketball league

A.S. Senior Secondary School, Khanna, and Khalsa School, Ludhiana, in the junior boy’s and women sections, respectively, began their campaign in style on the second of the 53rd Pepsi Ludhiana District Basketball League Championship at Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

A.S. Senior Secondary School beat Government Multipurpose School, Ludhiana, 36-30. The winner led 15-12 at the end of the second quarter. Rajnish scored 16 points for Khanna school, while Tinku contributed 14 points for the losers.

In the women section, Khalsa School, Ludhiana, proved too good for their senior opponents from Khasla College, Sidhwan Khurd, whom they trounced 36-20

In the men section, 152 Sikh Army team outplayed the PAU Club 53-34. Rabinder was the main scorer for the Army men, contributing 14 points, while Shiv Lal made 12 points for the PAU Club.

In the fourth match (girls section), Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar, Ludhiana, beat Gujjarkhan School, Ludhiana, 17-5. In the men section, G.N. Engineering College, Ludhiana, scraped past Christian Cagers Club, Ludhiana, 53-52. In their hard-fought victory, Ajay and Rohtash played steller role netting 28 and 16 points, respectively.
